Hey I just joined and i have a serious problem with the body on my 76' Mav. It has a 302 with a c4. The body has some rust that the previous owner painted over. Just behind all 4 wheels on the lower part of the panel. I herd this is a common place. Give that i am not very old i need an inexpensive way of repairing this, i though about cutting the panels on the rear and replace it with new sheet metal. An suggestions besides Bondo.
You have the right idea. The only way to repair a rusted panel is to cut out the rusted area and weld in new metal. Do you have the means to do this?
By means do u mean that do i have the knowledge and tools. Sorry to say but I am not that old so i dont have that much experience. and i dont have any type of welder.

As old as 16. the only real thing that i know is some engine work, everything else i read out of the 5 or 6 Ford Maverick Ownermanuals. The manuals cover baisically every 1970's ford engine, trani, electirical, tires, ext. They are the bible of the mavericks.
Being inexperienced is not a bad thing, the good thing is you are interested in learning. Find you a good body work manual. It will teach you some basics, then find some old sheet metal to practice on. You should be able to score some for free at a local body shop. You might even ask the owner if you can help out around his shop in order to pick up some pointers. Good Luck!

hey i'm only 17 and all i read are repair manuals those things are great welding is not that hard you just need to learn, my uncle who used to work on radiators was the one who tought me how to weld, the one problem is that they can be expensive, lucky for me my uncle lets me borrow his.
A welder is not a cheap investment but paying someone else to do the work will cost you a lot more. There's alot more pride in doing it yourself than writting checks.
