I was reading the web pages and saw that there was a difference in Comets, but my title work says nothing about being a GT. My Comet is a 1974 with a 302, and it has the same hood as what was being discribed. Does that make it a GT?

I figured I'd ask so that I can get some posts on here, plus I was really curious.
    Thanks Matt

Unfortunately, if you dont have the original invoice or window sticker, its next to impossible to verify. Marti only goes to 73.

    GT's

There were several components in the GT package. The options varied by year.
For your '73, the following are what to look for.

1-color matched (same as body) sport mirrors on both doors.
2-tape sidestripes with 'COMET GT' on the rear qtr.
3-semi-flat black painted on hood stripe
    4-fiberglass non-functional hood scoop
5-semi-flat black grill with argent/silver accents(I have seen black grills on non-GT's)
6-rear taillight panel is semi-flat black (I have seen some in argent/silver)
    7-high back bucket front seats
8-headlight trim rings on GT's were black-but they were not unique to the GT.

    Options:
1-standard Comet hubcaps could be replaced with forged aluminum slotted wheels with Mercury crested center caps starting in 1973.
2-these cars came with manual or automatic 3 spd. trannys. They could be floor shifted or column shifted in either format-manual or a/t. Floor shifted A/T was an option.
3-Leather wrapped steering wheel did not show up on all GT's. IF there are
grip grooves in the lower section of the steering wheel-they look like hash marks-it did not have the leather wrapping. If it is smooth all the way around-it had the leather wrapped wheel.
4-P/S, A/C, 302 vs. 6 cyl. etc. was an option on all models, not just GT's.
5-Disc brakes were not an option on any of these cars until '74.

There you go, to the best of my knowledge, that is the best way to tell. Dennis is correct, Marti Autoworks does not have records past '73.
