I've had my 1970 Grabber for 4 years now. Bought it for 50 bucks, tore it down and thats where it sits. I had a donor 351W a while back but it ended up in my Bronco last winter. I now finally have the time and a little money to get going on my Maverick. I'm looking for a pre-70's motor and found a 289 in a 66' Ranchero for cheap (it was in an accident) but I was wondering if anything else in this Ranchero would be compatable with a Maverick, mainly transmission and rear end. If anyone could help me with this I would be very grateful and would have my Maverick back in the shop next week!
I believe the 66 289 had the 5 bolt bell housing but I'm not sure. If so, you will have to use the Ranchero transmission too.
289 good little rpm monster, my brother had one in a 70 montego big car , he had just a summit cam and 4bbl in it. i drove it and beat a 350 72 step side pu with, ok i was on the street should have done it. hey it was along time ago...lost my girlfriend at the time over it... i kind of forgot she was there cuz that mean old chevy was egging me on.... well i was at alittle over 100 and i look over and she was like having a stroke practically and she was white knuckled and white faced..... well she was a good girl and after losing her beating that chevy wasn't worth it.... anyway the 289 is a good lil engine... is the ranchero auto or man. is your mav an auto....
