who has had there car dyno'd or who knows about how many ponies there pushing , the guy who is helping me build my comet said i'd be putting out about 400 to 450 rear wheel hp.. right know i've just got the stock 6 cyl rear end.. i think the gears are like 2:71.1 or something like that.... my goal is to run in the 12's anyway i was just curious about how much power my fellow and fellowette mav and comet lovers are roughly putting out....:drive:

You dont need 400-450 to run 12s. Mine dynoed at 303 rwhp and if I could get traction, it would easily be low 12s. Best time so far is 12.98 with 2 second 60ft.

Unless you are tuning a chasis dyno is a waste of money. My car dyno'd at 306 hp and went 7.21 in the eigth with the same setup two days later. The chasis dynos have to many variables to get an accurate number. But i beleive you wont need that much power to go 12"s.

so if i'm not just dreaming, if my motor does put out around 400, most likely i will need a roll bar, anything quicker than 12.00 like say 11.99 i'd need one right? i've driven my car like 4 times and once it ran good... so in the last 3 and 1/2 years its hardly used any gas...not bad for a v8...so i've got a question how would i determine roughly how much horse power i will have..its funny until i started getting on this site i thought i knew alot about cars... man i wish you guys were around when i was growing up. i thank all of you in advance for any help and knowledge that you can give me.... i really do mean it:Handshake

Me too, but I'm making less power I think.
On the rollbar thing, it's 11.49

Yes the new N.H.R.A. rules call for a roll bar at 11.49 and quicker.

I havent dynoed mine yet... But It ran a traction impaired (severe!) 1.87 60 ft. time 12.45 @ 106.6 mph in the 1/4 (107.6 mph on another pass)
and 1/8 th time on that same pass was 7.99 @ 88 mph . A couple of Drag racer friends of mine who watched the run said with no spinning they believe the car has 11.90`s in it:bananaman  :bananaman . car weighs 3135 lb with me in it..(I`m 225 lb) So I quess its around 315 hp at the rear wheels give or take a few.:)

    H/P and Roll Bar

Chassis dynos do have a lot of variables, but I still think they're more real world information. Also, don't be fooled by simply adding up all the HP promises from the list of parts you've bought. There are a lot of people that leave the dyno with their head hanging low, because their car only made 275 HP when they were absolutely positive they had at least 500 ponies!!! :rofl2:

My car checked 345 RWHP and it ran 11.89 @113 MPH. However, HP is only a small piece of the puzzle. How quick you get down that first 60 feet makes all the difference in the world in your E.T.

Rules for roll bars, slicks, scatter-shields, etc... can vary significantly, so I suggest picking up a rule book from your local track to be sure of what applies. If you're still not sure how fast you'll be, you can always manage to get a few runs in on test & tune day at the strip to better determine exactly what you need. My buddy just went 10.90 recently in his ugly little S-10 Blazer and he doesn't have ANY safety equipment yet (Yes, that was very stupid and I told him so). He didn't manage to get in a second run, because track officials basically escorted him to the gate since he told them it was a 13 second vehicle. Serves him right. What a dufuss.:slap:
