Hello, I jumped right into the Comet FAQ section -- now I see the 'stop in and introduce yourself' spot. Sorry about that! I own a 1974 Mercury Comet -- it is an automatic 250 c.i. straight 6, no power brakes, no power steering -- has 57,000 miles on her. She's a two door and is orange on the body and white on the top -- no major accidents, just a few small dings and bumps. Except for a small v shaped crack in the dash, the interior is like a brand new car. Real sharp! Father-in-law just rebuild carb and made the fuel guage work again, along with adding new struts and putting in a new leaf spring or two -- we drove it home yesterday -- 600 miles -- at 75 mph, that car just purrs. Sways a bit wide in the corners, but nothing too bad. We bought the car for our daughter to drive as her first car. We like the idea of her having steel between her and whoever/whatever she hits. I'm here to learn about the cars history and to pick up tips and resources to fix small stuff. My passion is motorcycles and guns -- I love to ride and I love to shoot -- one day I'll figure out how to ride and shoot (safely)! So far folks here have already helped me out a bunch. Like this site, will check in often. Jim
Maverick75, Thanks for the welcome. Also, thanks for the link to your page. I love what can be done to these cars!!! Jim
If this works, I was able to post a picture of my car -- just waxed. Jim http://s54.photobucket.com/albums/g117/Jim1970152/
These are great little cars. Hold up good in accidents to. I got hit in the front passenger side in my '74 Maverick Grabber by an '05 Lincoln Navigator that was going over 60 mph. There were 3 people in the car with me, it about knocked us silly, but no one was seriously hurt. Cop said if it had been one of these newer cars, someone may have not made it out of it alive. They are also very reliable and easy to work on. Looks like a nice Comet you got there.
Thanks Jamie, I hope she never has that accident experience, but experience tells me she'll have that accident. At least she has some metal between her and the source/target. And the fact that she wants to help me change the oil, change the lights, repair the trunk liner, shop for new tires, etc. etc. That is cool. Jim
Nice Car Make everything Orange Blue and you've got my Car exactly, mine has 72 k orig. I ripped off my Halo Top for the time being because it was bubbling and I didn't want trapped moisture trapped, eating holes through the roof. I think I may put it back on I go back and forth though.
, and heck, who dont like guns and bikes . Let me know what you come up with. Turret mount maybe?:evilsmile
