i have been looking at different charts for torque specs, for the 302(not boss)and all seem to be the same.the rod cap nuts are 19-24lbs.that doesn't seem like much,as for them walking off the bolts.is there something that can be added to keep them from walking?lock washer, some kind of sealent?i thought about loc-tite,but figure being around oil constantly, would not be a good idea.what have you used/added?thanks,chuck.

chuck, think about it...most of the bolts are less than 3/8", so 24 ftlbs is a pretty good amount of torque for a small bolt. and no...if properly installed they will not walk off. I've never used lock-tight or anything other than MFG specs to build an engine. get your self an engine rebuild book and read over the process then everything will be familiar to you. good luck

19-24 is correct. They're JUST 5/16" bolts. Also consider that they're fine thread, which doesnt require as much torque to get the bolts to stretch.

How many 5.0's are running around out there with the exact same bolts that were torqued at the factory to only 20 lb-ft? You never hear of a nut coming off of those....

worst thing you can do is OVER torque them. The bolt WILL break. Only a matter of time.

right if it was a boss 302 the rod bearing bolts would be torqued down to 40-45 but i didn't get this info from chilton's auto repair manual iam a shad tree man.

Thats because it has 3/8" rod bolts, not 5/16"
