Hi, I have access to a totaled 1998 mustang. Can the '98 mustang engine be converted from fuel injection by just changing the intake and adding a carb? Will the cluch assembly from the mustang work in my mav (I'd like to use the mustang's tanny also) or do I have to get one from an old Mav?
    Thank you

That mustang will have a smaller v-8 than the original maverick. I guess I am impartial because i dislike the newer mustangs, but I believe it would still work.

    Isn't the 98 mustang a modular motor....like a 4.6?

It would be a tough fit. The 4.6 is WIDE and would require you to remove the shock towers and do some major suspension mods just to get it in the bay.

Even once you've done that, the mod motor is EFI only . There are no manifolds to fit a carb. On top of that, the ignition is DIS requiring a controller to run it as well. If it has an auto tranny, that also needs an electonic controller. That's why it's easier to keep the whole thing together as a package.

Custom mounts, exhaust.....it would be a LOT of work, but very cool if you pulled it off. Several classic Mustangers have done it.

man, that would be cool. I can see a mustang II front end in your future, though. The 4.6 is wider than a Hemi, wider still than a 429 boss. If you've got the patience and money, by all means, go for it!:D

Sorry to let you down fellas but I'm actually looking for a relatively easy way to get a v8 in my mav. This is a new hobby for me and the mav is my first project. I've saved up for a v8 swap and now I'm trying to figure out what parts I need and where to get them. First on my list is an engine. I figure that the best way to get an engine is to buy a running car and take it from there. Is this true? Can anyone tell me what cars to look for spcifically that have a 302 that is most copatable?

Of course, a maverick or comet with a v-8 would be the best donor car, but just about any 302 powered vehicle would be the same. I would go with a pre-85 engine to keep it simple due to the wiring and all the extras on the later engines. An early 302 powered truck (68-73) would be ideal. Also, you'll need to come up with some v-8 maverick engine and frame mounts if you dont have them already. Also, the c-4 transmission would be the easiest/cheapest to install in a maverick chassis. I'm sure others will add more info.
