What would cause my maverick to sit so high? My maverick is 73 grabber with a 2 barrell 302 and for some reason it sits high like it does not have an engine or something. When we were trailering it home everytime we hit a bump the car looked like it was going to bounce off the trailor. That might have something to do with it. The car sits at least 3 or 4 inches off the front tire. I do not know if the struts are bad or maybe the springs but something is wrong.

Did someone change the springs before you got it? Could be also that the "shocks", not struts on these cars, are binding. Remove them and see how it sets, springs or other suspension parts could also be binding. Check each part systematically, get some 6cyl. springs and compare to the one's you have in there now. Have always used them in all the Mav's I had, even with a 351W engine. Worked great, get the front end aligned and see what the shop can find.

When you going to be home today? I could come by and take a look at the front end. It looked fine on those "truck tires" so I assume that you took them off and it still sits high on those slots?

If you jacked it up and put on those smaller tires, then never moved it after setting it back down, it will sit high until you roll it around a little. Even if you unchock the rear tires and roll it down the driveway to the street, then push it back up to the garage.

It could still be sitting on the outside of the tires from being jacked up.

If we find that you have aftermarket springs, we can cut those in just a few minutes, like I did mine (you may not want to go as low as mine, but we can do that if you want.)

Glad to see you actively posting (y) Get that thing running and we can start a local "Maverick Club-Angleton Chapter)

Maybe it's just low in the back. In any case, these cars look much better when lowered slightly...

Actually, it is high in the back...the previous owner wore the springs down flat, and then used really long shackles and air shocks to get it back up. I wish I wouldn't have thrown out my stock leaf springs a couple months back, or I would give them to him.

I think that after he moves it so the front suspension settles after being dropped back down from being jacked up, it will ride right where it should stock. I can help him cut the coils if he wants it lower.

I found on my car running wheels that are offset more towards the inside made it sit higher in front. Less leverage acting against the springs.

i know when i had my first mav which was a 76 i put a pair of heavy duty springs on and it didn't sit right, it had a 69 302 in it, so i went back to a new pair of 6 springs and went with different sock rear and front, my dad actually level it out buy doing this then it looked right ride height. just like someone else said you can go with 6 springs and do something with the socks front and rear you will get it to a good ride height.

TL, I am referring to maverickidd's car...

He lives down the street from me, so, since he doesn't get online as much as we do (he has a job, go figure!!!) I am answering for him.

He just bought the car with 235/70r15 or similar tires all around (hence the "truck tires") and when he lifted the car to put on some moderate size rubber, then dropped it back down, he never took the car off the chocks, so it still sits as high as it did when he dropped it off the jack. I believe that when he moves the car back and forth, and the suspension levels out, it will be more where he wants it to be.

    My bad...they were 235/75r15s

They were rubbing on the front valence and tore both the tire and the valence a bit. Nothing that cannot be fixed, but the maverikidd had to take the valence off to move the car around without tearing it up more.
