I got my dad to buy it (but i am going to pay him back)! its a 1971 maverick 302 w/ c4 automatic trans. it is basically a rust bucket with a interior that is pretty sad. the only thing that looks ok is the vinyl on the ceiling.:( but i am determined, and my dad is a genius when it comes to old cars so i am in good company............i have a question and i dont wanna ask him.......how hard would it be to swap the automatic (its in the steering coloumn) to a in the floor, 4 or 5 speed manual? and how much would it cost? thanks guys....

I am not sure of the difficulty.. but the people who have manual transmissions in their cars are using T-5 transmissions... I think they are out of FoxBody Mustangs!

Cool. I am excited for you.

The column-to-floor shift swap is fairly easy if you have all the parts from a donor car. The most overlooked part by people endeavoring the swap is the shift shaft on the tranny. It is different for the floor-shifter...

Congrats!!! Biggest part of changing to manual is getting the parts, especially clutch linkage. Best bet is to go with the T5 and fabricate a clutch cable set up.

A 5 spd would be really neat in a Maverick. Welcome to the board!
