I want to replace the front mono speaker with a dual cone stereo speaker. Custom-Autosound makes dual cone speakers that play stereo but fit in the same place as the old mono speaker. They come in 5 x 7, 4 x 10, or 6 x 9. Does anyone know the right size for a 1973 Maverick with Air?

Never changed one out, always just put other speakers in the lick panels and rear panels.

    Going to make Newcastle?

    Craig,

I recall seeing an article on replacing this speaker, but couldn't remember where. Which issue of the MCCI Newsletter is it in? I don't know if I saved it.

It was the Jan/Feb issue of 2006.

    Craig,

I found the issue. The article will be very helpful. Thank's a lot. BTW if you or anyone else is interested in the Secret Audio, I just had that installed and can tell you some of my experiences with it.

I can add that it is a really tight fit. I installed the speaker with the AC out of the car. I would say you will have to at least remove the AC plenum right over the hump that contains the blower motor assembly...as well as remove the center vent.

That's good advice. The guy working on my Grabber said he couldn't get to the speaker because it was behind a lot of stuff.

The guy trying to install the speaker says he can get to it by removing one of the air conditioning ducts. It may be the one you call the center vent. He says it is clipped on with two metal clips, but something is holding it from behind that he can't get to. How does he remove it, and what (if anything) is holding it from behind?

I am sure he will have to remove the part of the heater box that contains the fan. Once he removes that....everything else should fall into place (or is that OUT of place).

I gave him your message, but he says there's a duct behnd the heater box, and he doesn't know what's holding it from behind.

Maybe somebody can post a picture of a factory service manual for you that features the AC parts in the dash.
