Hmm.I never had any problems, but who knows, I only owned one. Maybe they aren't that good? Anyone else used them?

Petronix doesn't require any extra wires or the mounting of a box. I have run the first version for eight years with no problem.

Ratio411, I like the fact that you are building a Spabber, but I think you should change the name to "Grint". ;)

    On the Pertronix:
I have one on a 4 cyl air cooled Wisconsin and it works great.
It was on there when I bought the piece of equipment and has worked great for 3 years in my possession.
It beats the heck out of tuning points on that particular machine... (65 horse road saw).
The only reason I chose to go Duraspark on the Mav, 2 reasons actually:
    1: I have the Duraspark...
2: The Duraspark is rated with more energy, slightly, than the Pertronix...
2b: The Duraspark is totally magnetic, which in my mind seems foolproof... However I don't know that the Pertronix is not magnetic either.
I guess it is just a personal preference.
I can make the Duraspark look totally stock just as the Pertronix, and I have it in hand.

Yesterday evening I finally got the exhaust hooked up and the car sounds great.
The cam was very noticable with open headers, but has been tamed a lot by the exhaust. I am very happy. It has a slight rhythm (sp?) to it at idle, but might clear up even more with electronic ignition. The points are old, but set very well now.
The car busts off with a quick turn of the key and will even start/idle cold without any touch of the throttle. Being so cold blooded usually, this is a pleasant surprise to me.
The turbo muffs make the car very mellow, almost quiet. A crossover might tame it all some more too.
I just need some small linkage parts and I can finally hook up a shifter. The one time I drove it was just by jimmy-ing the tranny into 2nd gear and starting it. Too much trouble IMO, so I won't be able to give any clear idea of how the cam runs until the shifter is in.
The cam is a Lunati 218/.488/110* flat hydraulic with 942 Comp springs.
It remains to be seen if it starts pulling studs.
Along with the Duraspark, I have the following parts that will be installed before the end of summer:
C9 W heads, will have screw in studs.
750 vacuum Holley (5 bux at the Ford swap!)
Plastic flex fan or electric fan (Don't know which... I have both and will try them out and see. I am hoping to go electric and hide the fan under the stock shroud, but if it is too noticable, I will go flex)

If you look at the engine, it still looks bone stock except the headers, but they seem to blend well being BBQ black. Still has the 302 2v sticker on the air cleaner.
Want to make mucho changes and keep it appearing as it does now.

    Thanks for the posts!
    Dave

    On the equalizer bar:
If I hadn't made so many bonehead errors and wastes of time, it would have gone better. Been years since I did this, so it was learning all the tricks over again this time.
You have to be in the right position under the car, and you must use both hands at once. The top spring and link must be removed, and most of all, the top bar must be on the frame mount before the engine is in place.
