    Hey Guys,

I needs some honest opinions on which is a better carb. I have had both on my mav. and have had the holley act worse than the edle. is it because I have an edle intake? and Im looking to upgrade the intake to a better edle but I have had some tell me that a holley carb is better and I just don't want to have more issues.

if you know holley's there good if you don't know how to tune em they aren't good carbs, i pesonally hate holley's there alot of trouble to me, i'd rather have an edelbrock 750 with elect choke and have know worries. i have had one good holley, and i had to buy it and then have it built so i basically paid for two carbs. to me that is not worth it. sorry holley fans, but i put holley's in the chevy catagory.

that's hittin below the belt john:D . i've never had an edelbrock, but i've got a holley 750hp on my 71 and all i had to do was change the jets to what i wanted and set the idle. can't say anything bad about the edelbrock though.:)

I've been a Holley guy for years (since the early '70s). However, In my research, I'm finding that an Edelbrock is a lot less maintenance for a street car. No power valves to replace, etc. For street, I lean heavily towards the Edelbrock.

Now for the strip, I've got to keep my Holley style carb.

Power valve replacement is a thing of the past if you get a Holley newer than about 10 years old. They redesigned them not to blow out.

I have had both Edelbog and Holley.

First off, you have to get the intake brand name out of your head. The intake and carb don't care what brand name they are.
The Edelbrock will be a good bolt on and forget it. That is all that can be said about it.
The Holley does require tuning. Once it is set correctly it is set.
If you want power, read and understand as many books and articles as you can about a Holley and do it.
If you are not comfortable with this, use and Edelbrock.

I like both. I had problems with my older Holleys, but the new Street Avenger runs excellent. The main problem I have with Holleys is the needle & seats wearing out which causes floats to be too high or to stick, which in turn causes flooding. We'll see how long this new one lasts before I encounter that problem. Nothing wrong with Edelbrocks. A friend of mine has one on his Maverick and it runs great...

How hard is it to tune a Holley? The car I just bought (still haven't seen it! *itching to get back there*) has a Holley 350 that needs rebuilding and though it looks fairly basic (but so many little parts!!) I'm getting a little antsy now reading more on Holleys. Would it be better to just buy a new carb like an Edelbrock or rebuild the Holley given I have limited knowledge on those babies? (aka, I have no idea how to tune a carburetor!)

    Thanks...

it would definitely be a lot cheaper to try and rebuild the one you've got. just follow the directions that come with the kit and take your time. :)

For a daily driver either will work fine out of the box if you choose the right size.

For racing Holley or a Demon.

I have used a demon on my car for 4 years no problems. My Dad 2 years.

I have an Edelbrock since it fits perfect under a factory air cleaner.

I've got an Edelbrock. I have had good luck with mine. (y) I've never had a Holley but everyone tells me they can be troublesome. I guess they didn't know what they were doing! If you've never re-built a carb it could be good experience.

well i'm running a stock 2 brl motor craft right now lol.:rofl2: but i did pick up a nice holly 650 double pumper at a swap meet a while back and will be putting that on soon. i shouldn't have any probleams tuning it becasuse my dad has been tuning carbs for years. i'll just have him do it.
