One thing strange about that policy is that it is on a Mustang board of all places! It has been talked about before that you can build a new mustang from part catalogs etc. because the all parts are being reporduced! Not exactly the case for us Maverick/Comet enthusiasts.
I was doing real well tonight until I started reading this post. Now I'm crying in my wine (it's all that I have in the house, all out of beer) and thinking that this type of thing is happening all over the country. Thanks for opening my eyes Maverick Guy. It's people like us, who really love old cars and trucks that have to pay the price when there are no replacement parts left. WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO? Ok I feel better now, thanks for listening. Unfortunately this is been going on for much longer than you realize. I remember when I first moved into this house in 84, I went to a local yard and found a perfect maverick sitting there. It had no rust and was not beat up or had a single dent in it. The drive train was gone. I told the owner I'd be back in 2 weeks to buy the doors, fenders, hood and what ever else I could find useful. Well, it was gone by time i came back with some money.
Yeah I can't figure it out. The yards here only make $150 when they sell a car for scrap, and yet if they have a car slated to be scrapped on a given day, and you phone and say you need to get some parts from it, regardless of how much they stand to make from selling you the parts, they won't keep it from being crushed for even an hour or so while you pull the parts.
LOL , no We produce about 3000 + tons of liquid metal a day so if it was all cars ,assuming a car weighed 2 tons , about 1500 cars a day . I doubt there are 1500 cars scrapped a day in Saskatchewan .Most of our scrap comes from the chicago area and around the great lakes . I would imagine your inlaws are layed off right now ? There is not much happening over in the pipe division right now
No I wasn't suggesting that Ipsco's main source of steel is from vehicles, although that does sound hilarious, just that with Buck's pretty much right next door, it seems like it would be convenient. And IIRC Buck's is a subsidiary of Ipsco in some way or another. Yes they're both laid off as of last Friday, and expect to be off right through Christmas. Fortunately they're very resourceful, and my father-in-law mainly just works to support his farming "hobby" anyway.
