I have glass packs on my maverick, that come out infront of the rear wheels. they sound great and i am wanting it meaner. Put it like this i can set off car alarms. but i want that type of rumble that you feel in your chest.

What type of exhaust will do this.
What is a catback? all i know is that they improve power and sound great with Xpipes.

catback is just describing the exhaust setup from the catalytic converter to the tailpipe. usually this is in reference to a complete kit, which i dont know that youll find for our cars. headers and bigger exhaust will move you towards your goal, but if your already setting off car alarms much more will probably get you a nuiscance ticket on the streets.

I have flowmaster 40's on mine with 3" exhaust. Sets off car alarms all the time. I am growing tired of the sound and am thinking of changing to something quieter.

you can set them up with levers also. they are usually illegal, and the cops can ticket you for them in most states. did the cops just give you warnings, that they could ticket you? if so, then you are already running the odds as they say here in NV.;)

I used to have cutouts on mine. They were cool at first. I would pull the levers(2, one for each side)which were choke cables, and the exhaust would dump straight out the sides, push them back in and the exhaust would go through the turbo mufflers and out the back. I thought it was funny when I would be sitting at a light and pull them open on old people, just watching them look all around in a panic would make me laugh. It would definetly catch attention, especially cops that werent visible till I opened them up.That was like 15 years ago. I remember having the problem of keeping them shut. There isn't any improvement in power in my opinion, just louder and troublesome. Now I'm doing what I'm sure some of them old farts were saying and blowing it out my azz.:drink:

Well. sorta. I told them i was goin down to the strip, which was total bs cause i am only 16, and you have to be 18 to race, but i was goin there to watch. and they said to get some resonators or somthing. i didnt pay attention cause it was a bs pull over, they even said they pulled me over for just the was my car looks, and not in the good way. A-holes.

I have the Flowmaster 40s on my '73 also. I agree with Dan. :yup: Although I'm not tired of it (yet).

The deep 'bass' sound comes from the diameter of pipe you use in the exhaust.
You can replace your glass packs with some Dynomax race bullets and that will help some. But if you are using small pipe, that needs to be changed to get a deeper sound that you can "feel".

A balance pipe (X or H) will quiet things down, however, with the large diameter pipe, it won't quiet the 'bass'.

True true, i herd some Dyno max Bullets with a 2 1/4 inch piping, and i was amazed at the sound. and it was on a 289 mustang.

I have the 2.5" Dynomax Bullets on mine and they dump off just before the real end. They are slightly pointed towards each other which also adds to the rumble. They sound so wicked but I am actually getting tired of mine and I am considering swapping to a set of Flowmaster 2 chambers. The Bullets make it so hard to work on my car when the daughter is alseep.
