Welcome to the board. What I have discovered over the years is matching numbers is not identifiable like GM or Mopar. There usually is a range of time frame to allow for a so called matching number. Since there is no number relevence with the drive train to the vin, the matching number term is just another way of stating, original motor and trans according to date stamps on the castings. How did I learn this? I wanted to find out what I might have to do if I wanted a correct date code engine for my Stallion. The engine could have come out of 3 different models, one was a bronco, the other 2 I forget. Back to the subject, and sorry, but you have a 71 V8 Grabber, and that makes it one very very desirable car. Dan
