Good evening, I am in the process of lowering my front end by replacing the front springs with new 6 cylinder no a/c application springs. Advance auto can get theses but they tell me that there are two options for the six cylinder, grabber or standard. What do ya'll think the difference might be? I am suspecting the same ride height but a stronger spring for the grabber. I mean, it was a sport option right? Although I do not really know how sporty an i-6 mav would have been in '72.
I think Advance Auto is full of hooey on this one. The Grabber was no different than any other maverick when it came to suspension as well as many other things. I suggest you contact www.esposprings.com
Instead of spending the $$$ on coils that probably won't do exactly what you are looking for .... cut 1/2 coil off each side at a time until you have the stance you are looking for ...
i have heard that the maverick's used 2 different sets of springs.a lighter set for the 200-6 and a heavier set for the 250-6/302.
I agree . I don't think there is a difference between the V8 springs and the 250 I6 springs. I assisted with cutting coils on a V8 Maverick, not that bad a job. We took 1/2 coil at a time till we got it where the owner wanted it. I think we ended up taking a coil and a half. Definitly changes the looks.
Something i forgot, When I ordered my Stallion there was a heavy duty suspension option. Wonder if the same was available with the Grabber? Dan
No such thing as "Grabber" springs. All Mavericks use the same springs, based upon which engine they came with. Four -leaf rear springs were offered as an optional towing package...
Obviously Ford took many liberties with promo's. Marketing is the term. I have learned to never rule Ford out when parts are concerned. Just too many changes over the years. In my opinion you will have to buy front springs and have them cut to your desire. Dan
Bottom line putting 250 i6 springs in a v8 or putting v8 spring in a 250 i6 won't make any differance! been there both times and done that both time. don't waist your time. it will sit the same height no matter what. just cut what you have.
I cut my springs (250 set) on mine because the nose was in the air with my new lighter 302 (alum heads and such). I used a cut off wheel. A coil and a half was about right. With shop equipment it took less than 2 hours.
yeah, just what ever you do be carfull with the spring compressor, i have a friend who launched a spring 2 blocks.
Off topic... When I was shopping around for Insurance last year, one insurance company wanted $150 more a year just because my car was a Grabber! $150 more a year because it had a diffrent paint job and 93 in the VIN. LOL, right...
