just a thought, is your timing correct, if your timing is off it will cause overheating and will cause it to hesitate on take off, of course when i bought my comet it was the dwell that was so far off, and my carb was messed up so one of the first things i did was get a diff intake so i could get a 4 bbl. any way glad your home and tha you are a comet owner.............:tiphat: good luck.

It's the same way around here. I also have a few friends that live in a huge neighborhood/community just up the street called "Richland" (self explanitory? ) A Hummer or something like that would be considered a low end daily driver in that neighborhood. I always used to love driving my flat black half spray painted '74 Grabber through there with the steel wheels and white walls. :evilsmile My '72 isn't nearly as much fun because people actually like it. :rofl2:

Well, good news sorta (mostly bad though)

And we add more to the story of me new car. Good news: she runs. Bad news: she runs badly. I overheated her twice today - well, 3 if you count when I blew the radiator this afternoon. :slap: Twice I pulled off just as the dummy light turned on but the last time I had to get over one hill to get to my other car. Made it over, but by the time I parked her the radiator was sounding like a horn it was blowing so hard. Went and got quoted $209.99+tax for a bolt-on radiator at Autozone, but do I have that money?

    Erg. :chillpill

Add that to the fact that I also saw bubbles coming out of the top of the radiator (which could have been from the same crack in the bottom of the radiator if it was there before) and I'd known something was cracked. Arg arg arg arg.

Still love her, but does anyone want to nominate me for Overhaulin' or Pimp my ride?!

    Wow... you're psychic!!! (y)

Oh, and did I mention that rust is starting to show through the primer, and I need to replace at least two spots on the floorpan? Can't get up the carpet they put down but when they jacked up the car to see the brakes today (which I never got done, they're going to charge to just check the drums heck no!) there were mirroring cancer spots on the bottom, right behind the doors in what I'm sure is the floorpan. Looks good all around otherwise though...

It never ends does it? :yikes:

I'm haveing flash backs of the first 3 months I had my '74 Grabber on the road reading your posts. To many years, with to many people who didn't have a clue or just didn't care what they were doing when working on the car, equals alot of headaces. Sitting in a wheat field being a mouse hotel for 12 years before I bought it certainly didn't help any! But I really grew attached to that car and enjoyed driving it after I got everything mechanical in order.

Just take it in steps. Brakes and cooling would be at the top of my list if I were you. Get the car safe and reliable and then you can start worrying about the body.

wel now you see what happens with old cars. when i got my car the knuckle head befor my put the distrobitor cap on backwards. spark plugs were bad firing order was wrong. and hard to belive it ran. so bad though. it got to a point where it was so wack it would only start in park with the gas floored. then it get shaky and die. it dident run for like 2 monthes. now its fixed and i love it. but as pimp my ride goes. jusyt make up some stories about the car. like kik out a window and tell them it was your friends fighting over a bag of skittles. and stuff like that lol

 That's what I'm figuring too. It's kind of annoying (read, I know I'm going to have a lot to do when I get around to it) to see the body stuff just carpetted over (they must have glued every inch of this stuff down!!!) or primed over (and now showing through :slap: ), but I just want to drive her. Engine and safety was always my first thought, I was just hoping it wasn't anything that would cause me major bucks right off the bat. Shoulda known better, right?

*lol* Yeah, they eat that stuff right up don't they? Thing is, it's more the journey I was wanting to go on than the destination. Of course, a few more months of what I've been doing the last couple days, I may just want someone else to take the journey and bring me back the finished product. :evilsmile

I haven't checked the timing yet, as I frankly don't know how and don't want to screw it up. I think I'll go down later tonight and check to see the plug wires are lined up right; easy to do with my Chilton's in hand. :) Really really wish I had that money for the radiator, as that's an easy job to do and might actually fix the whole overheating problem by itself. Alas, it may be several weeks before that happens with the rate money is raining down on me. :90: o_O I'm probably going to get a 3" bigger spacer for the fan and see if that does anything with it closer to the radiator, but that'll be on hold til I get the new rad in there anyway.

Oh money money, where for art thou money? :coco:

A rad shop might still be able to fix you old radiator and for less than a new one

(Hope ya'll don't mind me continuing to post here, I just don't have too many others I can tell without them getting all over my case for spending money on something so "stupid")

I went over to the junkyard again today and got that hood off the 4dr. Fit like a charm (minus a couple issues with the hood latch), and since it's got the original factory paint I could tell there wasn't any cancer. :bananaman
The radiator I'd ordered also came today and I got that in there at the local AutoZone too, and did a quick job with zip ties to get an overflow jar in there beside the radiator. I went a little around Folsom then back home and up hills, and she never overheated. Wasn't even overflowing!!
 Me is a happy camper.

Here's some more pics of the car. I couldn't get the cancer spot as my camera chose just then to go dead, but you can see what kinds of cars she hobnobs with, her new hood, and my favorite part of the car's interior so far. :rofl2:

I should know that, really. :p Just that I'm the only one excited by the car in my immediate family (aside from strangers on the street, met lots of people who know or own these cars too), so it's starting to wear.
