Did the 71 Maverick 302 have a charcoal canister for the fuel system under the hood , if so are they hard to find.
Yup, They Did. Located Behind The Passenger Side Shock Tower, Bolted To The Firewall. Just A Little Round Container About 6-7" Wide... Cant Miss It
i have one in my 71... one of the lines is broken.. the larger cloth/carboard hose... and then there is a hose going back to the tank on it.. i was thinking of taking it out.. not sure if it really works. or useful..
71 Grabber wouldn't take gas. Unhooked the vent line from the Canister & now it takes gas. Guess the Canister was clogged.
Thanks for the information I guess I will have to find one , I still need that , an air cleaner assy. ,and original valve covers to get back to stock condition.
I Bet I've Junked A Dozen Of Those. Every Now And Then You'll See One Pop-up On Ebay But I'd Say Someone Around Here Will Have An Extra
Every Maverick came with the charcoal canister ... so any junker should have one ... make sure you get the bracket as well if your's is missing. Keep in mind that a 71 would have had the short version ... about 5 inches high ... pretty sure later year cars had much taller versions ... but either one would work. Good luck on the 71 302 air cleaner ... it was also used on 71 302 Mustangs ... If you don't care about having the correct air cleaner I have one I can sell you. The Snorkel and top are original paint and the base is the old one off my Grabber. The correct 71 cleaner may be tough to find ... it was on used only in 1971 and only on Mustang and Maverick 302 cars.
Did the value covers say "Powered by Ford"? If they did I have a few spare sets kicking around, and may even have a cannister somewhere.
Tired of the gas smell in the garage, I went ahead and got a black smaller plastic canister from a later model ford at the junk yard, workd/looks great and no smell.
Not the best thing to do. It does not rob any hp and it safely vents gas fumes back into the engine to be burned,
But what if you have a open element air cleaner? Where would you hook it up? My only guess would be to hook it up under the air cleaner base.
