Had a cool experience today... when me and my little brother were walking to the liquor store, and we were wating for the light to turn green we saw a 79 el camino pass by then a avocado green 4 door 76-77 mav passes by...as it did i tell my brother "hey its maverick" when i said that the girl sitting in the front looked towards me and then it left.I kinda wished it would have stopped before turning, so i could have told the driver about the forum.I have seen this car before once. Then as we continued walking i looked over at the parking lot were i have my surburban parked and i see a 70's Nova parked there also my dads friends 69 torino GT.Then a MII comes flying by,followed by a 73(74?)pontiac Grand Am...for a minute i thought i was in the 70's .....Then my friends boyfriend comes by in his Box on wheels Scion...that has 4 fart-can mufflers on ithe just had to ruin it. What do girls see in guys with boxes as cars?:16suspect
Man that must of been the greatest feeling for a while. I have had a moment sort of like that, but it was only like 4 cars and there weren't any mavs/comets. And the more important question is, why were you going to to the liquor store with your little brother? Well I guess everybody must have one, wait I'm over due . The story though was a nice . P.S. There always seems to be a car that ruins the moment, such as a mitsu lancer evo (wanna be) IIIIIIVVIVVVIVVVIVIVVIVIV that had not one but two wings on it and a huge sticker of a purple genie on the door. Can you say lame? Oh wait and he had a twin turbo setup and Naws, he claimed like a billion hp.
I don't know, maybe since FATF and Vin Diesel/Paul Walker says these cars are awesome, it's cool to have a BF with one. Or maybe the whole farting-car thing is the new fashion accessory. :16suspect Personally I always figured those little posers with the loud back ends and nothing under the hood to show for it were just trying to compensate for...other things. Hey, something's gotta be big and loud in their lives I guess
Hmmmmm, hopefully the "liquor store" is really just a convenience store that also sells pop, snacks, etc. I agree with what "lady" said Also, those aren't the kind of girls you want anyway......so it's their loss By the way, cool story! I'd really like to go back in time and see nothing but those types of cars on the road.
right!!! like you have been there once already. i was but don't remember much about it :16suspect :dancingpa ...'70s friend frank...
lol Frank, actually yes I was No, maybe not back in the late 60's-early 70's........but I have been interested in cars since about 15, which would have been around 1981. At that time, the cars we call "classic" now, were still out in abundance as daily drivers and believe me I was checking them out. I went with my Dad to a car lot and chose a '77 Comet for my first car (when I could have chosen an early 80's POS) Soooooo, that's what I meant I love older cars and the 60's-70's more than the "average" girl  Anyway.......don't mean to be thread hijacking here, please continue on
That's what I love about the 1st week of October every year here in Mississippi. We have an event called Cruisin-The-Coast. http://www.cruisinthecoast.com/ Unfortunately we didn't get to have it last year due to Katrina wiping out most of the coastline but it's back on again this year. The event covers about 30 miles of beachfront driving with lots of stuff going on everywhere in between. The neatest thing is like you mentioned where all you see is the older cars on the road. Well, at least a majority of them are old. I take a weeks vacation every year for it and spend every day cruising the coast. Here's an excert from the website. Cruisin' The Coast® has become a major tourism boom for the Mississippi Gulf Coast and the biggest special event in the state of Mississippi. Car enthusiasts from over 37 states and Canada drive to the Mississippi Gulf Coast once a year to showcase and to cruise a variety of antique, classic and hot rod automobiles at designated stops along the Coast in Ocean Springs, Biloxi, D'Iberville, Gulfport, Long Beach, Bay St. Louis, Waveland and Grand Casino Gulfport. Cruisin' The Coast® began back in 1996, when the Mississippi Gulf Coast Gaming Association decided to host an event that would attract more visitors to the area - and has it ever! In its inaugural year, the event drew only 374 registered vehicles from neighboring states. But since then, the event has grown exponentially. Last year, Cruisin' The Coast® drew in an impressive 5,365 registered vehicles.
Seems every time I see one, I am driving anything but my Maverick, and I am always going the opposite direction and it isn't possible for me to turn around due to traffic or whatever. I saw 2 driving around while I was in NC. A red big bumpered 2 door, and a blue small bumpered 2 door. Both times I was driving my grandpa's '05 F150 and there was no possible way to turn around and catch up. I think it would be cool to go back in time and spend like a week in each decade from like that 1920's and up. Man that would be cool to see all them old cars driving around.
Allen, I won't have time to do it this year due to all that's still going on but I plan on having a mini-meet at Cruisin the Coast next year. You should start making plans to come down. It's absolutely awesome.
