Has anyone ever put LDO back seats in a 71 Grabber? If so what side panels did you use? Are the side panels in LDO unique? The original side panels in the 71 were way off. Put some side panels out of a 74 Grabber & they were alot closer but the seat bottom is way too wide to fit. For that reason I am thinking that we must need LDO rear side panels.

That's strange, I thought the only time the side panels ever changed was in '71 or '72 to accept the rear seat belts? Is it possible the LDO seat is out of a 4 door?

I don't think you need LDO panels....as they really are no different than a regular side panel. You just need to find 1972-1973 rear seat panels. They have the slot in them for the retractable seat belts to come up thru them. 1974 is a different side panel because of the 3-point seat belts used in the front seat. They are different down by where the seat belt spools are located for the front seat. Just look at yours and you will see.

    Update

Guys after fighting with this thing all day here is what happened. First of all I bought LDO seats off Ebay about a year ago. Asked the obvious question of weather they were for a 2 door or 4 door. The only thing I knew to look for was if the front buckets will tilt forward. They did & I bought the seats. They were a matching set color wise. Here is the problem. Rear seat back fits fine. Bottom won't fit no way no how. It's because the rear seats came from a 4 door. Guess I should have checked that before I reupholstered them.:slap: The plan is to modify the bottom cover to fit the correct 2 door seat. I will post pics when we get the seats in.(y)

like they said they are the same however LDO's came with Ash Trays.. two differant types... one in the arm rest part on the panel and other ones in the panel it's self on the side.

Craig that's not the problem. This seat bottom is at least 6 inches wider than the measurement between the side panels. This seat bottom has to be out of a 4 door car.

I had a 4-door LDO back seat converted to 2-door. The upholstery shop trimmed the 4-door cover down and then put it on my 2-door frame. Just so you know ... the back of the seat is also different between 4-door and 2-door ...

Dan do you know what the difference is in the backs? We have the back mounted in & it seems fine. We are in the process of modifying the seat cover on the bottom to fit the 2 door frame. Will let you know how it goes.

It has been a while so I do not remember the exact issue. I too had the back hung in the car while I was waiting for the bottom conversion to be done at the upholsery shop and it looked fine. But once I put the bottom in I saw right away the top was different ... I'm thinking that perhaps the 4-door back sticks out further ... pretty sure the bottom brackets where the bolts go through are completely opposite. Pull a rear bottom seat out of one of your cars and mount it with the 4-door rear back and you will see ... or if you have a 2-door rear back compare it with the 4-door .. the difference will be pretty obvious ... I know it was when I compared them.

:bouncy: Guys I wanted to give another update on this Thread. Turns out the seats I bought were 2 door buckets & 4 door rear. The seat back from the 4 door worked fine. We just had to rework the cover on the bottom to fit the 2 door seat. Worked great. I was not going to show any pics until we got it all back together, but sorry I couldn't wait to show off these seats. This is the "Big Bumper 71" that I bought for my son about a month ago. We reupholstered the seats. He did have bench seat, now buckets. Don't worry those Big Bumpers are gone. By next weekend we should have the small bumpers on. We should have the buckets installed by tomorrow night. I will post more pics then. We borrowed the Logo inlay for the seats design idea from Ken (Part Time). We hope he doesn't mind. Ken's interior is really unbelieveable.(y)

WoW! That is Freakin Awesome! If the rear back fit's OK then it is from a 2-door. Perhaps the bottom was ripped and the person you bought it from got a replacement bottom out of a 4-door ...

Also ... did you hit Lotto or something? You've been on a pretty nice buying and spending spree lately! :D
