Does anyone have, or know of any 302-351 cars that are going 10-11-12 second et's with a regular old hydraulic lifter cams?
I am trying to see if I can make it with a hydraulic cam, or if I will need to go mechanical.
    Thanks Steve

Yes, there are plenty of cars running low tens (that I personally know of) running hydraulic set-ups.

hyd = turns lower rpm - less maintenance, easier on moving parts, ample power

solid = high rpm's - more maintenamce (adjusting), harder on moving parts, more than ample power

A general rule of thumb, I've noticed, is to use what you've got. If you are going from one to the other, there's a considerable amount of mney to be spent and a steep learning curve involved.

I'm running hydaulics and will be staying with 'em (well, for now at least). ;)

Expect the solid lifter guys on here to 'retort' - to each their own.

    'Luck,

    -Rick

Hey, I guess it all depends on what your definition of "fast" is.......i'd say that everyone's definition is different. You are definitely limited when you choose a hydraulic cam but it is easier on parts. I used to have a hydraulic cam in my car and it went a best of 6.75 in the 1/8th at over 3000 lbs. My hydraulic cam gave up at 6200 rpm's, I wanted to go faster so I installed a solid lift cam and automatically went a 6.35.........

    Cam

If you are not looking go as fast as possible, then dont worry about it just run a hydraulic. If its a daily driver that you dont want to mess with run the same thing. To me i could care less about anything but going fast cheap so i run solid flat tappet cams. A hydraulic cam can get your car in the 10s 11s or 12s but a solid will do it easier.

    Thanks Guys,
If it can take off four tenths in the eighth mile then I guess I had better go solid.
Not to mention, this is not a driver, but only an occasional toy.
    Thanks Again
    Steve

a solid cam with the same specs as a hyd. will create more power than the hyd version..
