    Which Edelbrock Intake?

Do you have a drop base air cleaner assembly yet?

i dont have anything yet, my last maverick was a 73 and when i switched from a 2brl manifold and carb to this setup i have currently with the performer manifold it was too tall and i couldnt shut the hood, so i ran without one until the motor blew in it. i was just wondering what has worked for everyone else so i can go out and get the same thing.....

my friend got a 2 or 3 inch cowl when he went from a 302 to a winsor, my hood is the old one he used with the 302

I believe the 351W is a taller motor.

351 is a taller engine, but you should still be able to fit a drop base air cleaner under the hood with the Performer intake. There are also some really low profile air cleaners that came on 65-66 Mustangs, so you can try one of those.

i used a chrome aftermarket one on my 71 when it had a 351w in it. stock hood. edelbrock performer. don't remember wether it was a drop down or not, but it fit. make sure the nut on top clears before you shut the hood too. don't ask me how i know.:)

I used a air cleaner assembly from a gran marquis 81 vintige. modified with dual snorkels on performer rpm and holley. its on a 5.0 liter. the air cleaner is drop base, has the cut out for the big cap distributer, has the air vent hose that goes to the valve covers and best of all it is all alumnimun. I have about a 1.5" clearence. cheap mod and factory looking. hope this helps. almost forgot, the 5.0 liter(84 I think?) has the dual snorkel, drop base air cleaner and thiers K&N air filters available for it !!

well i might be going with a hood scoop, i got a line on a mustang cobra one. then i can just cut a hole in the hood and be done, if i go with the stock hood, what size elements are you guys running? i am worried about this being a problem since this is a very healthy motor and i dont want to choke it off with a tiny air filter, if i remember right i think i tried a 14" dropbase air cleaner on my last 351 and it had throttle cable issues, anyone running my paticular setup on a 351w? pictures would be awesome!

throtle cable takes precedence, as in safety, hood scoop and open air element filter. the factory stuff could be a restriction on a powerful engine !! good luck !!

If you are just running a Performer, it should not be an issue.
The RPM or Stealth are the intakes that really test hood clearance on 351 Mavs.

Can you even use a drop base on an AFB? I didn't think you could.

i have tried them on other cars before with the afb and they have all needed a spacer under the air cleaner.
