Check your local boneyard,, there are tons of them for sure. You need a front sump pan. The 302 was a big hit here in the heartland. Keep us posted and dont give up.

well youll probably get better mpg's with a 2bbl but more power with a 4 bbl.is there an intake manifold on it already? you might have to go with one or the other depending on what the intake is set up for. you can always get a new one anyway

If you can keep your foot out of the 4bbl it can get pretty good mpg. Typically most 2bbl carb's have bigger jets since there isn't another 2bbl to open up like on a 4bbl carb. 4bbl primaries are usually smaller or you can rejet them smaller, then you have the bigger secondary's when you need the extra power. I'd go with the 4bbl. 2bbl carbs cost almost as much as a 4bbl these days so might as well go with the 4bbl. Just be easy on it and you will be good.
Check casting #'s and make sure what 302 you are getting. Some of them are cows (meaning not much hp). So unless your planning a complete build up make sure what you are getting. Also since it didnt have a carb was the manifold and engine covered with anything? If not water can easily get into the heads and cylinders and cause major rust problems, valves rusted to chambers, pistons to cylinder walls etc. If it's in the car and can be turned over with the starter, take the spark plugs out and turn it over, and watch for water or any weird noises. If turning it over with the starter isn't an option do it by hand, also take the plugs out. If it turns over freely then it most likely doesnt have any rust or water problems.
