We decided to spend a few extra bucks and order a new gas tank from NAPA. It was 161.00 for the new tank.I did'nt even know they carried gas tanks for the 76'-77' Mavericks until a good friend of ours tipped us off to it. I was also uncertain about if a used gas tank could be shipped or not with all the gas fumes and all. So anyway, many thanks to all of you who offered to look for a used one for us. We really appreciate it. When we get the tank I plan to undercoat it, so with any luck it will probably outlast the car. I also ordered some POR-15 for the undercarriage. Once the rust issues have been taken care of, I'm going to coat the daylights out of the undercarriage and any other rust prone areas. I'll probably have to order myself a Hazmat suit to wear under the car so I don't end up wearing the POR-15 for the rest of the year.:hide:

Jean, nothing wrong with a little spatter of POR-15 on your skin. Everyone at work knows when I have been messing with my car when I come in with black streaks and spots, or grease under the fingernails :D

I can walk in monday morning, they all see the "traces of work" and ask "so what did you do to the Maverick THIS week?"

We ordered the tank from our local NAPA store and they told us it would take about 5 business days to arrive, so we figure it should be here by Friday.

Yep, once it dries, you just gotta live with it. Toenails...? Scrape off the top layer with a knife or wait for it to grow out. Same with skin, teeth, eyelids, etc. That dollop on your shirt or pants will WAY outlive the life of the garment.

If you hit it early with acetone, you can ge most of it off, then just have a faint black "freckle".

I just hope the stuff works on metal as well as it does on everything else.

Great find! Those two years are the larger tank, correct? I'd like to get a little bit more range with my car, as I plan on driving it quite a bit...do they have new fuel senders to go with it, or is it possible to use an existing one?

They are the bigger tank(22 gal) you will need the 75-77 straps to install them on a 72, i think they come w/o the sender and no one re-pops them that i know off.
