I just did the introduction in the forum above and if ya didn't catch that, here's what's going on. My gal has a 61 Comet with a weak 170 6cyl and 3 on the tree. I've heard that putting a 250cyl will bolt right in place, but I'd also like to get an automatic for her. They mention finding a donor car like a Granada or a Maverick and swap out all the good stuff like the whole drive train and maybe even the brakes and stearing, plus I'd like to go to 5 lug wheels. What year would offer the 250, C4, and an 8" rear? I noticed in my Motor's manual that in '69 & 70 the 250 put out a good 155 hp, but mellowed out 70hp by '75. I know the gas crunch killed preformance. More than likly it would be in the head. Is the compression ratio lower, or did they choke them out out by shrinking the intake and exhaust ports? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
I wouldnt worry about the ratings. They changed the way they measured them. That accounts for the biggest drop in the numbers. Look for a 75-77 because they have disc brakes.
Now that's the kind of info I'm looking for. Thanks. Do you know if the brakes bolt right on, or are they different in the mounting? adapter kits available?
