Other than the lack of feel of the road I'd like to stick with the PS and see if I can make the car handle correctly. When I bought the car with stock wheels and tires and even when I changed to Torino GT wheels and a little wider tires it drove just fine. When I went to wider wheels and tires with the front less wide than the rear and a different offset is when the problem started. It is not so much wandering. On nice smooth road it isn't bad but when you get on well traveled rutted road it gets real uncomfortable. My thoughts now are that with a different track on the front vs the rear the car gets unstable... in other words the front tires track in slighly different ruts than the rear causing it to want to change directions. My guess is that with everything perfect (i.e., steering box , front end components, alignment, etc.) the problem would not be as noticable but I have something or combination of somethings that are not just right and the power steering isn't causing it but may not be helping either. I'm gonna try the following: - Carefully check and if necessary carefully adjust the steering box preload - Have the alignment checked again and go with the more positive caster... I found the article I was looking for and it says that especially lowered cars benefit with as much as +3 degrees - I will look at the mounting point where the PS cylinder mounts to the frame. I've had troubles there before I think partly because the longer bracket to clear the headers... need to make sure its all tight and not moving. - And if necessary, I borrow some stock wheels and tires from a friends Ford to see if my above theory is right. Thanks to Mavmark and ALL for the suggestions...
