Just putting out a feeler gauge here.

My father works at northrup building f-18's, and can make EXACT molds, etc for car parts, (he does it all day long for f-18's to military/us specs!)

Anyhow, he has worked with fiberglass before, and knows what he is doing. With a kid on the way, I am seriously trying to start my own side business somewhere.

I think reproducing fiberglass parts for special niche groups such as maverick owners could yield us lots of money, as I have seen no other Exact reproduction of a grabber hood in fiberglass yet.

Am I wrong?? To the best of my knowledge there is no glass grabber hood out there right?

I have a perfect original hood I can make the mold from.

If I was able to make and design one, with perfect fit, and competitive pricing to the big guys, who here may be interested?? I have to be sure there is a market, as He told me it will likely take about 4 weekends to produce a good grabber mold.

    Jeremy...

...I have a Comet so I am not 100% sure on this one.
I thought that there was someone reproducing glass
versions of the Grabber hoods. I know that someone
is producing copies of the Comet GT hoods with the
scoops integrated. Since the Grabber is more common,
I would imagine that they are as well.

That does not mean you can't do it as well.

You may want to check into licensing rights with Ford
or through an atty. I am not sure what is involved there.

If not the Grabber hood, you can always do a version of
spoiler for the trunk. Or better yet, an entire trunk with
a built in spoiler and end caps to match out of fiberglass.

That way you will have a market from Comet and Maverick
owners since the decklids are the same while the hood is
    not.

I have always wondered what a decklid more similar to the
'67-'68 Shelby would look on these cars.

You could also do a variation on the standard hood with
something similar to the Grabber hood, maybe with larger
openings or functional ones. I know there are companies
manufacturing race type hoods with large scoops.

Maybe there is a market for the front and rear valence pans
that seem to hard to find in straight condition. Maybe you
can stamp them out in glass.

    Good Luck-
    Seth

    Thanks for the input!!!

I have always thought a slightly more radical rear spoiler would improve the image of the car.

If anyone has any info, or anything about that company, and if the hood is already reproduced, send that info on my way.

I want to do something that no one else is doing, and I need to make money on it.

If this becomes a reality, there is a chance that we can do something custom, and perhaps I can get ideas for custom parts....but that is still in the future.

Yes, Grabber hoods are reproduced in fiberglass by Crites Restorations. AutoKrafters sells them.

i agree that the grabber spoiler would be a good thing to reproduce, i think they would sell better then the hoods

I have seen the spoiler piece reproduced before-someone already does. I would have to do the whole trunk and spoiler, or do it a little differently

Wait a minute! That Shelby Mustang has a license plate that starts with "DAB". Does Doug own that too?

    making hoods...

yep a couple of places are making them....
performance fiberglass has the grabber, cowl, and stock hoods available, as well as fenders, spoilers, and trunk lids, doors .etc..
up22.com and autokrafters has them as was said earlier post.
they fit good but theres always shimming or moving to be done.

do you have a picture of one??? Sounds like it would be a little easier.

If no one else does it, it would possibly work, however, I would have to see the scoop, show my father, and see what the demand is. However, it likely is a lot simpler than a grabber hood.

Send a pic on my way if you have one. Of course, if we decide to do something like that, I would have to find a scoop to serve as a design for a mold, and I've never seen one in a salvage yard that I am aware.

you could even put grabber scoops on a comet hood . You could mold the "GT" scoop on the hood so that no one will need to cut or drill holes in it :) you could also make spoilers too hope thiss helps .

ok ive been busy so i havent seen this thread until today. but anyway i will take one. u give me a price and shipping cost. heres what i want . i have a 1971 maverick grabber but i would a cowl induction hood. not a huge cowl something like a 2-3 inch one. nothing huge just something that will give it that subtle aggressive look.
