My insurance company and I have been fighting for over a year about the value of my 73 Maverick. It has come down to this: They are going to have an appraiser come out to look at the car. I can get an appraiser to look at the car. Those two appraisers will choose a third appraiser to look at the car and the value placed on the car by the third appraiser will be binding. I need to know the contact information of an appraiser so that I can hire him to examine the car and give a value for it. Does anyone know of an appraiser who is familiar with the Mavericks / Comets in the greater Seattle area? If not, do you know how I can find an appraiser? Thanks, Paul
I would be curious what an appraiser would think it was worth. I would be curious what YOU think it is worth as well. I may be able to help. Email me directly if you wish not to divulge the info here.
Check your e-mail. I think the car is worth $3000 on the open market but I plan on finding another good deal on more of these cars before the value goes up much more. Paul
State Farm just asked me to take my car to agent, get a complete set of inside and outside pictures for them and me for the record. I picked the amount and the underwriter must have accepted it. Mine is not a collector car, I insured it for what I paid and some extra. Will up it next year when I finish the interior and get it painted.
Why don't you just insure it with a classic car company like Hagerty and pick your own value? This sounds like a lot of work for a $3000 car.
Maxpower, This is not a question of getting insurance. My car was involved in a collision with an uninsured motorist a year ago last June and I am trying to get it fixed but my insurance company doesn't think the car was worth more than $950. Before the accident the only rust was on the lower left rear quarter panel. It is a two door, V-8, Auto, P/S, with the luxury trim and AM radio. The exterior paint is original and very thin on the hood but I still get people asking if it is for sale. The interior was in great shape With one small crack in the dash, the floor is free of rust and the trunk still had the original mat. The car had less than 90000 original miles with no smoke or oil consumption. Runs and drives great - even after the accident. The accident broke the drivers bucket seat, bent the rear bumper, lower valance, fuel tank and pushed the trunk up and in. She slid under the rear end of my car while braking at the last minute trying to stop. Her car, a mid-size GM, was completely totaled and had to be towed. I drove my car to the doctors office and then home. I am on total disability, receiving Social inSecurity and the pension from my automotive machinist union because of back injuries from the accident. In order to get my bid in on the car I need an appraiser who knows Mavericks and their values. I don't trust my insurance company to be fair about this and I am sure that they have an appraiser on staff. I need to get the car appraised to establish the value so I can get the car fixed - not to insure it. If you insure a car through the classic car insurance route they require pictures and an appraisal before they issue insurance because it is based on the value of the car. Since I already had insurance I just transfered it over and my insurance company didn't even bat an eye - until after the accident.
Paul, pm you..why don't you post some pictures so we can all look at the damage and the complete car and maybe get some idea's to help you????
I hope it all works out. Just make sure you donlt let them give you the run around. Fight the good fight fellow mavericker!!!

I got a call from the appraiser that the company contacted and had a long talk on the phone about my car. He made an appointment to come and see the car the middle of this next week. The fun part was when he was looking on his computer at a list of twenty cars and says that the average value of the cars that are equivalent, from 1972 to 1975, was $3500! I just about dropped the phone. The more I thought about it the more I wondered if State Farm had given him the price that I gave them and it is all a smoke screen. This really sucks! I a usually trust people real easily and pretty much accept what they say at face value and now I am acting like a paranoid idiot. I did find out that I can get a list of vehicle appraisers from my bank. Then all I have to do is hire one and have the car inspected. I want to thank all of you who have expressed a desire to help me in this matter. You guys ROCK! I will fight the fight with all that I have at my disposal and keep fighting as long as I need to. I am sure that this is going to affect the relationship that I have with State Farm but if they had just done what was right in the first place they would have been done by now and I would be driving my car. Special thanks to Craig and Tom - If I can ever do anything for you just let me know.
I got a call from State Farm today, The appraisal they got was for $3300. They will pay to repair the car! I don't have to do anything but fix my car up! Hip Hip Hooray! now to find a good and inexpensive body man to do the work... any suggestions?.. recommendations?
