Now that fall and cold weather is here, what is the best way to protect the fuel system in winter. It's not bad here (Memphis,TN) except for Jan-March real damp and sometimes below freezing. I plan on driving the car a few times a week like I have all winter. I see products like "heat" "stablizer" etc in the store for the fuel system....what do you all use....Should I keep the tank completely full of gas?
This is what I use up here in the Great White North, http://www.goldeagle.com/sta-bil/ I use it on my cars, bike, and lawnmower for the winter, and the snow blower for the summer, and I always try to put them away with a full tank of fuel, cuts down on condensation, even in a heated garage.
stabil... i have a 10x19 storage shed.. i will be putting my mav in for the winter.. just as soon as i get a couple more runs at cordova..
This guy is smart..must be Canadian eh! We know are winter stuff up here..almost time to get my igloo cleaned up and ready for Hockey season!
StaBil is the stuff to use for long term storage. You will never need gas line inti-freeze in Memphis. You guys don't really get a winter down there.
What's this thing you guys call, "winterizing" your car, lawnmower, boat, RV, Weed Eater, motorcycle, etc? 'Sounds like it'd be easier to move south.
Rick, if everybody moved South, then there would be no one left to hear us gloat about living here and no one to raz about the northern winters. C'mon, we gotta keep some fun.
Raised in Fontana, Ca. I really hate the snow up here in Nebraska. Military brought me here and now I'm stuck. Have been insulating the garage. I plan on working on mine through the winter. Check out the audio section to see what I'll be up to.
Hey guys, be careful about adding any product to the fuel that contains alcohol - ethanol or methanol. Most fuel companies add alcohol to their gas for the winter months. They add up to 10% and if you add another pint and there is any moisture in the fuel it will separate into alcohol and water on the bottom and gasoline floating on top. Your engine won't run on alcohol and you have to drain the tank to get it out. Yes, I did it. I was lucky because my tank had a drain plug. These Mavericks don't have drain plugs so you either syphon it out or you remove the tank. No fun in that! Since the boys making the gas put alcohol in it, you shouldn't have any problems with ice forming in the low spots.
You say you will be driving it through the winter... I wouldn't do anything except put normal gas in and drive just like any other car. I didn't have any problems out of my Grabber last year other then it didn't like to start on really cold mornings.
