Interesting part about my spring-cut is that they are V-8 springs from a '73 Grabber, that were given to me back in '92 after the car was parted-out. So I had them for over 10 years before I installed them, which means that they had about 20 years of use on them, vs. the 30 years of my originals. I cut just one full coil from them, and stuck 'em in there. Well, at first, the car sat the same as always, but by the next morning, the front dropped drasticly, and actually about a half-inch more than what I wanted. I am not pulling them back out for just a half-inch. I'll live with it. It looks pretty good...

My son is building a 68 F 100 pickup, he wanted to drop it a little so he asked me how many coils to cut. I told him start out with 1 1/2, then if its not enough, cut some more off a little at a time. H e decided I didn't know what I was talking about and cut off 2 1/2 coils. Needless to say it was too low, sitting on the bumpstops. I cut him another set of springs myself today, 1 1/2 coils, stance is perfect. Sometimes us old guys do know a little bit, ya know?:D

I think people should be aware that there is some settling after installing springs that have been cut. Always be conservative with spring cutting. If you want to lower the vehicle a lot, I suggest installing drop-spindles as well. Don't always rely just on spring-height for dropping the vehicle...

I guess I must be really lucky then. I bought lowering springs for both me Mav and my Fastback and they both lowered the car as advertised. I know old school springs used to need a lot of time for settling, which sucked because of changing alignments all the time, but the newer aftermarket ones have worked really well for me. My Mav had 550lb Mustang lowering springs from NPD, and the lowered the car about an inch.

Here are the new ones next to the old ones on my workbench:

Those are the same ones that I used, I also put poly bushings in the spring perches, and a poly bushing for the top of the spring.

Where did you get them? I couldn't find them (PST didn't have them for Mavericks), so I replaced mine with OEM-type rubber...

Most Mustang catalogers have them. I use National Parts Depot, but others have them as well.
