I'm also 16 and I just got a 72 about 3 weeks ago and i know the feeling man.....I wanted mine for about 6 months befor I got one so look hard and good luck..... oh yeah and welcome to the board
welcome to the board. what is best for you depends on what you want. the earlier models had the smaller bumpers, but the later ones can be converted. the later ones have disc brakes and 5 lug rears, but again the earlier ones can be convertsd. so the main thing is to find one with a good rust free body as most other parts can be changed.
thanks guys youre a big help! im getting my license in about 2 months. that is good news for me and my parents! (that there really dependeble and easy .) what is the part in the car that needs to be changed the most? are the parts cheap and where would i neede to get them?
where are you located? someone on here might be able to help you with your search. if you get one of the older models, (I think pre '74) you should probably update to an electronic ignigtion like on later versions. as mentioned above you will also find a better braking system on the later ones. all of the mechanical stuff is pretty cheap and easy to find but you may have a problem locating cosmetic things like body panels and interior items. rust is the biggest thing to watch for, dont be afraid to lay under the car and check the floor pans and see if the seller will let you pour some water in the cowl vent (beetween hood and windshield) to see if there is any water leaking in to the interior, water stains already in the carpet could also be a clue to this. that could potentially be a big yet easily hidden problem. good luck
