at least she is ok... there are always other mavericks not other daughters. and like others said part it out.. you get some money back on it.

    Jim,
I am happy that your girl wasn't injured. That Maverick - as you described it when you first got to the forums - is worth about $3300. You might or might not have damage to the vehicle's "frame" and if there isn't then it might be repaired for close to what it is worth. (it is hard to tell from just one picture) Having to put that much money into a car that old is rarely something people do. By all means sell it to the body shop if he wants to fix it but if he is just going to part it out then you should do that. The seats (according to my insurance company) are worth about $150 for buckets and about the same for a bench seat. All of the window regulators, dash parts and trim pieces could be the difference between someone elses car being just ok and making it nice. Parts are getting more scarce all the time so parts in good condition always have a market. The engine has some value and the tranny (C4) has a salvage value of $50 - $75 and if it is in good running condition it might be worth more. Any parts that are in good condition should be saved from the scrap yard. I am sure that you can find buyers for most of it. For instance I am interested in the passenger side floor panels from the foot rest back to the rear of the rear seat well - and from the bottom of the tunnel over the top flange of the door sill, and the rear quarters from 2" above the trim line down - from the wheel-well to the rear valance.

    Glad you daughter is OK.

Hard to tell from one picture but the car may be repairable. Rust free cars are hard to find.
    Few things to check
Do the doors open and close OK
Do the doors fit the body the same (Gaps etc)
Did the drivers fender gaps change in reference to the door and hood and cowl
    Hood fit along cowl

All else fails get her another car and Dad can build a toy. Rod and Custom Mustang II conversion and a V8! (y)

You could always buy another project car and use everything you could off the wrecked car. Just an idea...

Update on the wrecked '74 Comet

    Hello,

Well, I called three yards and no one has called me back. I will take that as "thanks, but we'll pass."

I am now to the point of (1) part it out here and on ebay, or (2) sell the car as is in one piece on here or on ebay.

But exactly how do you ship a hood?

Car starts fine, motor and transmission were not affected; door and trunk open and close fine -- I think only the clearly obvious was bent during her accident. The damage appears to be just the right front quarter panel and the front wheel.

We just put $300 worth of new tires on her; three of the four have less than 50 miles on them. My father in law gave the motor a nice tune up (including a new carb, which was tough to find) -- the new windshield is not damaged at all -- it was expensive to get as well. The grill is in one piece; the gas guage works, along with everything electrical inside and out. I even have the origional gas cap.

Is there anybody here that would like to buy the car as is? I really don't want to screw with parting it out -- that's just not something I would be interested in.

All reasonable offers accepted! It would involve a truck and trailer -- I can borrow a truck and rent a trailer -- I would be willing to meet someone that was within a state's distance of Wyoming. :drive:

Thanks again for your support and ideas, and happy Thanksgiving!

    Jim

You are actually going to have that car fixed? Or did you find another body?
