i am looking at an out of state maverick and in this state they don't issue titles older than 86. they just use bills of sale. how hard is it to locate a missing title. florida uses titles on all years. anyone experienced this?
ahhh weedhopper. you just need to go to a non-title stae(providing the vehicle is not stolen) and they will issue you a bill of sale. that my friend is good anywhere. they must issue a title(in a title state) against the bill of sale. ive done it literally hundreds of times with motorcycles and cars. titles unlimited is where you need to go. any hemmings, old rod, musclecar rag will carry an ad for em. enjoy.
thank you sensay. weedhopper has learned a great lesson for all ages. haha i had no idea it was that easy. do you apply at titles unlimited or at the local dmv? b.t.w.-- are you coming up to the silver springs show? it is too late to get the free passes but they might be accepting registrations. i got mine back and i was #1118 .the year before ther were only 1000 cars there. this show is growing like mad. there are a few of the board members going. i know of at least 4 and the CAMEO group always has a big showing. let me know.
get to the local quickshop, and grab any musclecar/old car rag. look in the advertisers index, look for titles unlimited. get the info, and skeedaddle. ill post it on here tomorrow, i dont have any here at home.
In MD all you need is a notarized bill of sale and they will issue a title for the vehicle. Whom ever you get the car from can provide that. Then I would think FL should issue a title with just that. Thats how it works here, anyway.
Yea, no titles for cars this old required in GA, just a bill of sale if the car was bought in the state. If you buy an old car with no title out of state and bring it to GA, you have to have a cop come out to your house and run the V.I.N. to make sure the car isn't reported stolen or anything. If everything is clear, they will fill out a form and sign it. You get that form notarized and take it to the DMV and register the car. This is what I had to do with my '72. I bought it in Charlotte, NC with an unsigned Philadelphia, PA title that the notary seal had expired on. Would have been a real b!tc# to register in a state that required titles. Guy I bought it from was using it as a parts car because of that.
Here in Alabama all we have is a Bill of Sale for 1975 and older vehicles. I've sold cars to people in several different states and the only one that ever had a problem with the Bill of Sale was Louisiana. They had to have the Old FL title for the car ( I have no idea why) which thank god I still had. So just make sure you check with your state!
A few years ago I sold a 65 Econoline to a freind in Altamonte Springs. The van was registered here in RI, no title, registration only. He only needed a copy of the bill of sale, RI registration and had to get a VIN check. Since the van was here in RI he mailed me the VIN check form and I had the VIN check done by the local police. From my experiences in other states such as AZ, NY, CT, NH and MA they only required what was issued to the vehicle by the state it was from. Some states such as RI only title vehicles that are newer than 10 years old and will not issue a title for an older vehicle. RI requires proof of ownership from the seller such as old registration or sales tax receipt. So as long as the vehicle has the proper paper work required from the state it is from you should have no problem. Fred
thanks FMC56. that helps alot. this car has been in the same family it's entire life so it should not be a problem getting the paperwork.
So, if I move to AL, which is very possibly, AL will not issue titles for all my vehicles even though I have titles for all of them now?
On some of the older vehicles that I have registered in RI and Maine where titles were not issued I kept the original ones if I had them. I even sold an Econoline pickup back to the guy in FL that I bought it from 5 years later. I still had the FL title he had given me so I just handed it back to him. Even after being registered in RI for that time he just used the old FL title to register the pickup, as if I had never owned it. Years ago Hemmings Motor News allowed the sale of titles for older cars. They have since banned the sale of titles but the same people are now selling frames with good titles. I'm sure the frames are long gone and only the paper work has survived. Fred
If it's anything like GA, if the car has a title, they will issue you one if you want one. My '74 Grabber had a title when I bought it and they issued me a new title with it in my name. I can't get a title on any of my other cars though, none of them had titles when I bought them.
