Boy, I stopped reading this thread because of the initial ricers vs muscle car bull that gets repeative. I missed alot. First off,
Reaction time has nothing to do with ET. You can sit at the green for 30 seconds if you wanted to and still crank out a 14 sec ET. My 77 has a stock 289 and could only muster a 16.2 ET. I've since put a set of 3:55's and got the rear barrels to work but I still doubt it could do much better than a high 14's / low 15's. These cars are heavier than you think.
I'm not sure what your looking at but new gears are around $180. A bearing/installation set is around $100. The center section for a limited slip is over $300. Plus the labor to put it all together. Do you have a part number?. I'd be curious as to what it is.

Bossmav and Mavaholic, If you look up a few posts it was the price just for the housing not the whole set up. I was asking someone if what I had seen on Summit's site was the whole diff set up but unfortuanately it was wrong.

in 1971, it was 210. Dont get your hopes up too high about taking a stock 302 74 mav out killing rice. It won't earn you a lot of brownie points. Read up about your engine and build it right, then you could go out killing hondas, at the track. These cars are becoming harder and harder to find nice body panels, why risk breaking your car. Keep it safe.

That is right, a pinto with 250 hp will out run a lincoln continental with 350 hp.

speaking of pintos I am currently elping my 19 year old brother build a pinto with a 2.3l turbo out of a TBIRD hehehe here litle honda...........I should say it will be a 2.5l with the crank swap turboneticts upgrade turbo hand ported intake and custom made header by yours trully. T5 tranny subframe connects atc.....Im thinking low 12s maybe a shot a of NOS to really stir things up but that DEPENDS on his budget. Little shit makes more than me got with Ford Motor company at a tranny plant through a local Vocational school. 19 an hour with all the overtime you can handle..................so i think it will come together soon.

Since your 14....here's a little advice:

If you want to keep your license and your life....don't even think about street racing anybody!! Keep it on the strip!!

Agreed, one of the things that bugs me most is that about 88% of street racing is crappy hondas and their giving racers a real bad rap around here. I think it has something to do with them also driving around with their subwoofers cranked up real high. Neighborhoods are complaining and big time police crackdowns are coming, although their basically only on one street and the funding is almost all gone now.
