Got the parts, then got distracted by a sinus infection, then cleaning and prepping my floor prior to carpet...
You will also need the extension housing gasket, Cause i don't believe you will ever get the old bushing out with it on the car, When you do pull the extension housing (tail shaft housing) be sure to clean it good, I use starting fluid, be careful, no open flames ( hot water heater, furnace, ect.) Then take 3M weather strip glue, glue gasket on both sides. C4S i have built have always been prone to leak in this area, the 3M seems to eliminate this problem. NEVER USE SILICONE ON AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. Another note i always press the bushing and seal in with a hydraulic press. Hope this helps. Yes by all means replace the mount, this very well could be your vibration
I talked to the local tranny guy (that is "transmission", not "transexual" ), he said he would pop the old one out, new one in, $30 if I bring in the housing and parts. Thanks for the mention of the gasket. I have never worked on this and need all the info I can get...
Used to work with lathes and milling machines...ain't got those privileges anymore Got an "office job" and the fat ass that goes along with it. Pay is a bit better
OK, car is off the ground, driveshaft is removed, bolts at the bottom of the trans crossmember are off...what next to get the housing off. I assume it is straight forward, but want to be sure. Will I have to loosen the motor mounts and jack up the back of the trans? Then just pop off the bolts, I hope... Replacing the rear mount then taking it to the trans shop for seal and bushing replacement.
Nevermind, I got tired of waiting for a response, and just took a longer look at it. Ended up dropping one header, putting a jack with slight pressure on the trans bell housing, then dropping the cross mount, and taking it all apart that way... By the way, there was definitely a "splash" of fluid when it came off. Lost about 2 quarts. Luckily, I had my face out of the way
