Yo guys has anyone removed the oil pan while in the car. Looks like it should be no problem but just checking. Thanks, Joe

Yup just remove the belly bar if the car has one. I also remove the bolts from the idler arm and drop the steering down.

I did it the hard way by dropping the pan and squeezing my hand in and removing the oil pump so the pan would slide forward and out.
Pretty easy to take it apart like that, but putting it back together that way was a nightmare.

I did that once too. Won't do it again either! Next time, the motor comes out. Also did the same thing on a Fairmont once...pump locked, tore up the drive shaft (no oil pressure but ran fine) and Dad bought it home from the races...we changed the pump by fishing it out of the dropped pan, still in the car, and I think we finished something like 3 am...and headed back to the races a couple hours later. Won't do that again either!

I tore up a 393 a few years ago in my Maverick. I dropped the pan as far as it would go (an inch or so) right there on the trailer and fished a complete rod out of the pan full of parts. The big end was broken, but the cap was still on one of the bolts. Dad was still making rounds and I was bored...only reason I did it.

I did it the hard way as well if memory serves.

Never again, between the time wasted and the oil that kept dripping in my mouth, I'd have been better off to pull the engine.

I think at the time the lift was occupied or something tho...

The last time I did it was in my 66 mustang. I just jacked the engine up off its mounts and everything cleared fine.
