I bought my Maverick last month and its now time to start working on it. It has a busted windsheild (from a brick), bad brakes and no title or tags yet.

I want to tow it to work so I can fix the brakes and have the windsheild replaced. Will it be alight to tow it on a two wheel car hauler for about 5-7 miles draging the rear wheels? It is an automatic. Should I have the motor running while the trans is in netural? I really dont want to call a tow truck for this short distance. I though about driving it but the brake pedal goes to the floor really quickly.

    Thanks
    Chad

What I would recommend is to take the drive shaft out and take a cap off a spray can and stick it over the end of the trans. and duct tape it so the oil doesn't run out. If you jack the rear up it makes it simple to take the drive shaft out and also reduces the amount of oil that will come out of the tail shaft. Just an idea:D

I thought about removing the driveshaft but didnt want to get under the car and unhook it in the grass.

    Thanks for the idea

I towed a car for work one time that was rear wheel drive 400 miles. That was the longest scariest trip I took. Anything over 45mph and it started swaying really bad. Going down hills I couldnt use the brakes or the swaying would get worse. It took me 10 hours to go those 400 miles. The good thing was I got home around 6am so there wasnt very much traffic on the interstates.

I'm thinking I will leave it running in neutral so the tranny fluid is flowing. I only have about 5 miles to go with the longest strech between lights about 1 mile.

The output shaft on a c4 spins the low gears sprag and rubs against the low gear band when towing . Not usually a problem on a towtruck because the tilt of the vehicle tends to keep the band immersed in oil . It probably wont hurt if you tow it this way .
    I would do it .

I talked to a guy I know at the ford dealer and he said the 2 wheel dolly wasnt a good idea.
I'm going to use a16 foot trailer. It just fits. I used it to get the car home but I couldnt find any good tie down points but it was dark out. Hopefully I can get it on the trailer before dark tonight..

    Thanks of the replys
    Chad

We rented a 2 wheel dolly from Uhaul to go and pick up my 2door.It was a good 60mi drive. The only scary part was on the way home it was raining, and I went to unstrapped the wheels and 1 strap had come off, talk about scary!!

I found a 16 foot trailer and moved it. I had a friend watch the sides as i drove up it. There was 3inches and 4 iches clearance on the sides of the car. It just fit but it worked.
