I just wanted to say hello. This is all new to me. In october I bought a 1974 mercury comet gt it has I250 in it. Over the winter I am buying the conversion parts to change to a 302. The engine is a 302 crate motor with about 350 to 365HP. I also bought a new C4 from performance automatic. The main problem I am having is tracking down motor mounts and engine frame brackets. Here in PA the junkyards do not like to keep cars that are over 25 years old. I would welcome any help through the conversion process even some things I may have overlooked. Anyone out there own a 1966 mercury cyclone comet gt with a 390S code. I also own one of them to.
The motor mounts are available through parts stores. The frame brackets are unique to Mavericks and Comets. You can buy reproductions from Crites Restoration, they also sell the mounts. http://www.critesrestoration.com/index.htm They also sell a reproduction double hump trans crossmember (I still have the 6 cylinder one in mine) You may also want to get the crossmember bar (belly bar) that runs below the engine. Those are not reproduced yet so you will need to find a used one. They show up on here and ebay all the time. Good luck with the project.
Nope not in the Fairlane club, I thought I would wait until ford carlisle. By then I should have most of the major stuff taken care of.
Welcome to the board. Sounds like you are on your way to a great project, post a pic any time you want of the progress, we love pics.
You should bring your Comet GT to Carlisle if you have it done as the Maverick Comet Club International (MCCI) is having a Regional Mini-Meet there. If not, bring it down to Washington D.C. for the 14th MCCI Annual Roundup Nationals in July. Find out more about these events at: www.maverickcometclub.org
