went to the local autoclone (autozone) to get a pair of rear wheel cylinders and they ask what bore size they were.does anyone know about these?the rear axle i am using had no wheel cyl.on theml,so i have nothing to compare them to.the axle came from a 74 v-8 mav,but autozone said i had numerous choices.would any v-8 mav wheel cyl.work?or is there a certain one i should use for safety reasons? thanks for any help you can give. drive safe chuck.:bananaman
I thought there was ony 2 different ones. 1 for 4 lug axles (9" brakes) and 1 for 5 lug, (10" brakes). I've bought many wheel cylinders for these cars and never had to know the bore size. Try a different counter guy. If all else fails, get the biggest. All of them should bolt up the same.
According to my interchange manual the bore is 7/8". It's the only one listed for a '74 Maverick. Ford part # D2ZZ2261-2A.

The bore size can vary by application in a lot of cars, my Mustangs certainly do. Usually the backing plate is the same though. If your came from a V8 car, get the biggest bore size you can for that application. You might have to monkey with the lines to get them to fit, but it is worth it.
I have rearends from a '66 Mustang and a '70 Mustang. The backing plates are different in the shape of the hole where the cylinder fits through. One is round and one is "D" shaped (flat on the bottom). Don't know why they couldn't just make 'em all the same shape. :confused:
