I believe that the lifters are making noise. 250 6cyl It quiets down when I let up on the gas but never goes away. Can these be ajusted? Is it bad for the motor to keep driving it like this? Only has 51,000 miles, but had been sitting and only got about 150 miles in the last 3 years before I got it.

Try a quart of Rislone oil additive and see if that won't loosen them up.

i used rislone on the trip from kentucky to arizona, and that stuff works AWESOME.

i put a wuart in before i left, and since i was losing so much oil the entire trip, i added about 1/4 to 1/2 quart every 500 miles, give or take. usually when i stopped for gas.

it works.. i will swear on it and i offer up scoopers car as collateral if it doesnt work ..

    hehehehe

Not sure on this,,, before I would try a cleaner, I think I would take valve cover off and see how engine looks, start up with cover off, listen and look to condition. With cover off you should tell if it's a lifter or something else.

If inside of engine looks fair and it appears to be lifters, try the cleaner and go from there. Good Luck!

    good idea (y)

also check to make sure the oil return holes are ont stopped up in the head. :yup:
get a book and check the oil flow, then you can get an idea where a blockage could be.
maybe Jamie Miles can shead a little light on this problem, he is good with the 6 cyls.
