so when i bought my maverick there was a lot of things wrong with how it was running, but they weren't major. i had pretty much no clue what i was doing when i first got my car. so my mom had a mechanic come over and find out what was up with it...it needed a cap, rotor, plugs and wires(i replaced the fluids and filters b4 this) and it was running decent...my dad tried to adjust the idle(he knows a bit, but is way rusty...last time he worked on a car was mid 80's...72 or 76 camaro lt) so he got it down a bit and i ended up rebuilding the carb soon after, o i had to adjust it myself...i got it to about where my dad had it. than i got some advice from people on the forum and i got it almost perfect now. than last night i was going over the schematic of the carb and the back had how to adjust it, and i found a screw inside the car(on the schematic) that i didn't turn all the way in like it was supposed to be(metering rod adjustment screw) so today i took the top off the carb and adjusted it, i took it up my road, it had a little bit more low end torque, but a ton more top end...it hit second faster, and didn't lose as much power after the shift. it makes me really proud of myself to know that i did all of the work myself, and only needed a little hel to ind out what was wrong.
at first i was really nervous to touch anything, but now it's more of a make sure the cars turned off or you might lose a finger on the fan...lol
just be careful. remember mistakes are for learnin, we all made(make) em. keep up the good work. perhaps in the future youll be on here and see a similiar post, and say hey! i know just what to tell that wippersnapper!
lol, yea i havent made any big mistakes yet and i hope i dont anytime soon. i want to get the b&m transpak kit, than get a b&m hammer head ratchet shifter...
your literally surrounded by knowledge here, so dont be afraid to ask for anything. keep chargin ahead.
don't let scare you take it apart if you cuss alot and still can't get it together just ask somebody. We are all here to help each other. because like my dad says nobody knows everything and if they say they do don't listen because its probley. So good job and keep learning
this is actually by far the best forum i have ever been on(i'm a supporting member of one of the biggest forums on the net...pbnation.com) and 90% of the members aren't active posters. and 8% of the people who do post, are very sarcastic. this forum is full of maturity and knowledge just like you said. i'm very happy to be a member of this forum, and will probably become a supporting member as soon as i get money in my paypal. it's very true that those who think they know everything are throwing bs...my friend tried to tell me that old engine require super due to there age :16suspect i'm almost positive the only thing that determines the octane is the compression ratio of the engine.
thats what i love about working on cars. the satisfaction of knowing that you can fix just about anything without having to pay a bunch of money to get the same thing fixed. good job
so i was reading the schematic again...and realized my "dashpot" was adjusted wrong, so today me and my freind took my car out for a b4 and after test...full throttle upp the street(secluded area dont worry) and on the second run (after adjusting the dashpt assemebly along with the idle misxture and idle speed) it hit second even faster and hit 50 where it usually shifts to second...my friend kinda envys me now...lol. i was very suprised in the difference it made.
