I have an 8 inch 5-lug resting on jackstands and I began taking it apart for a rebuild. I pulled one axle out with no problem but the other one is stuck. Any ideas how I can free it up or get the proper leverage to pull it out?
one thing to try is to put a drum backwards on the studs, put a couple of lugnuts on and try it like a slide hammer. should do the trick, as long as all the nuts are out.
Excellent reply Don - that is the "old school" shop trick to get them out if you do not have a slide hammer handy. Double check that all 4 retainer nuts are off. I just about killed myself trying to get one out once and it turned out to be a missed nut still on the stud ....
We Used A Chain On My 9 Inch Put Chain On Stud Put On Lug Nut Stand Back Snap Chain Up And Down Then It Came Out Slide Hammer Was 60 Miles Away Another Old School
I have never had the luck of an axle pulling right out... Always had to slide hammer, drum hammer, or chain jerk method. Watch out using the drum though, can booger the threads if you aren't careful. Good luck Dave
