went 12.22 first time run. sputtered off the line 2nd run and ran 12.28. 3rd run sounded rough so i slowed it down and drove back to the pits. earlier i thought one of the plug wires was loose and had a hard time getting it back on so i thougt that was what it was. drove back to the pits and checked them out. all tight. pulled the valve covers off everything looked okay. started it up and had 0 oil pressure and a knock. guess i have to pull it apart again. was rebuilt in december.

they all said so i wont say it again.. i know its hard to have an engine rebuilt and then have it go wrong..

    hopefully its something simple..

but i would look at your crank bearings.. get some plasti guage and check them all.. that sounds like the same exact problem i had when i did my engine.. come to find out, the guy that did the crank gave me the wrong bearings.. replced with the correct bearings.. viola..

yeah seth racing season is here and i've got another race next saturday. not sure what i'm going to do yet. don't want to thrash all week. and i don't want to put in another engine only to have to take it out and replace it when i get this one repaired. maybe i'll just race one of the other cars and take my time with this engine so i can get it right. i'll let you guys know what i find, but 0 oil pressure tells me it's most likely the oil pump or shaft. even a bad bearing would still have some pressure.:)

If it not the pump shaft, spin it with a primer rod and see if the pump is ok. Are you running the steel push in oil galley plugs, in the front of the block? Took out a 4000.00 fresh 331 because one came out. Will "NEVER" use them again, drill and tap for pipe plugs. Symptoms were the same on it, as your's. Alway's a nasty thing to happen at the start of the season, hope it is fixable, no matter what went wrong. The demon's are alway's lurking in our race cars.

i pulled the motor and tranny this afternoon. looked down the distributor hole and couldn't see the shaft so i'm figuring it broke. now just got to figure out why and how much damage was done??:hmmm:

how would a oil pump shaft break so easily.. i mean, there would have to be some sort of binding for it to just shear like that..
