It is not an easy job for the inexperienced. Some say you have to remove the windshield and rear glass to do it. Way back when I had my 75, I took it to an upholstery shop that dealt in auto resto's. Bought the headliner from auto krafter's and he installed it in one day without removing said glass. 50.00 fee and it is still in the car and as good as new today. The fellow used to do all the Hollywood movie cars, at one time. He is now passed on and what a shame. The shop was closed and none are left around here anymore. Maybe some in Texas like the one's in Mexico that used to do tuck and roll for cheap, a long time ago. Am I ancient or what?"
Call an interior and set up an appointment for them to do it i tried it once myself and it's not worth it. there's a guy around here that does it for $150/labor and it's well worth it. and this guy can do it with or w/o removing the glass. but if u remove the glass to do it, its a perfect time to install new weatherstripping good luck!
Well, i got the windows out, ALL the trim and upholstry outta the back seat area. now before i call these people to come out and install it i want to make sure i have ALL the correct hardware.. i have 1. 4 rods. 2. 2 about 4-5" thin metal hook thingys (attached to the ceiling supports in the back) thats all, this was already tore apart when i got the car. does that sound like all i need? Thanks, Chaz
There are two plastic trim pieces that go up high on the A-Pillars. You will see a little hole that they push into. You won't need them for an install...but you might want to get some later afterwords if you don't have them. There are also coat hooks that go on the sides.
Well i mean besides the coat hooks and the overhead seat belt. i just want to make sure theres nothing else missing like more rods or maybe springs? actual headliner hardware or anything to prevent from installaing.. thanks guys! Chaz.
GREAT! THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chaz P.S. WHat are the 2 small wire things with the hooks toward the back for?? Chaz
is the shop going to come to you? because normally they dont, you might need to take the car to the shop. and if you do plan on driving without a windshield.. go slow and wear goggles
Dang Chaz. What are you doing to that poor little Maverick? My '72 was in the same way when I got it except I had to hunt down the header bows and the little wire "thingys" as you say.
I am about ready for the same, just going to order the rubber seals this week. Sure wish I could find someone to come out here...I can't find anyone that will install anywhere. I am going to find someone in the local mustang club and see if they know anyone.
LOL! well there was no headliner in the car. all the parts for it were in the trunk expect for the 2 wire "thingys" that were still on in the ceiling. the car is complete, i stripped out the entire rear upholstry and im going to repaint the plastic ( special paint from NAPA) I need front and rear window seals, and when there pulled im going install the headliner. ONly Paid $175.00 for the car and it run GREAT! I have our Bodyman at work helping me with what little bodywork that needs to be done, and then we are going to repaint it back to the original dark green w/ lime green decals. Im tring to keep it as original as possible.. Chaz.
If you are going to install the headliner yourself, here's something you should do. The dome light, sunvisors, the piece between the sunvisors and part of the rear quarter windows are all held in with screws that go through the headliner. Before the headliner goes in, thread all of the screws for the above mentioned items half way into thier respective holes. After the headliner is in place you should be able to feel the screw heads with your fingers. All you need to do then is make a small cut in the headliner with a razor blade over the screw heads and take them out. That way you will not have to search for the holes when you re-install the visors, domelight, ect.
