I've been working on Tammy's, fixing little things for this cruise coming up. Well I cut 3/8" off the rear lowering blocks and added KYB gas adjust shocks. I noticed before these mods the car was bottoming out alot when driving with a full tank and stuff in the trunk. With the shocks being high pressure and cutting the blocks do you guys think her car sets to high? The space from the tire to the fender measures 1 3/8" in front and 1 3/4" in rear with half tank and trunk emty
hey thack! 2 things... 1) did you put kyb gas-a-just in the back? if so, where did you find them? kyb doesn't make rear mav gasajusts any more. i'd love a pair for my 70. 2) her car looks GREAT!!!!!! just like it is.
I bought 65-70 mustang and welded on the eyelet from the old shocks. I cut the pin off the new shocks and cut the eyelets off the old shocks pressed the rubber bushing out welded the eyelet on shaft side, cooling them quickly then pressed the bushing back in.I don't recomend this for everyone becuase the risk is pretty high if it's not done right, like having the ground in the wrong place. If the shock body grounds out it could releave all the high pressure gas and oil resulting in injury. And used mustang II fronts sence we have that front end.
Personally I think the car still looks great. Sure, lower might be nice, but from what I can tell, this car is a real world driver, not a trailer queen. The ride height is still stealthy low and gorgeous. John B.
looks good I think it sits nice, it's real hard to tell the distance between the tire and the quarter from a distance. If it's like my car, when I'm up close I think the space is way to big, but from a distance it looks ok.
Hey Tom...It could stand to be a tick lower(you saw mine)IMHO. The car still looks fantastic! The problem with gas shocks is the gas heats up with each up & down motion eventually relieving the shock of its' elasticity. The longer it is driven the softer they get. That's why road race cars refuse to use them, preferring a standard adjustable juice shock that stay more consistent. I'd say, a set of Konis are in order. Just my .02
I have 2 KYB Gas-A-Just... ...shocks that were supposedly for my car. The front ones fit just fine. The rears did not have the eyelet as Thomas mentioned. I am not going to attach any eyelets, I have gone with different shocks on the rear. Does anyone have a need for 2 gas-a-just KYB's with threaded rods at each end? I assume they are for a Mustang or other Ford product. I can take pics, measurements and give the part # off of the box if needed. Let me know. They are going cheap! Seth
