The last few days I spent in the garage. Yep, my place in the house. My Mav has gone under a few changes. I bought a D5 head, had it milled, bigger valves added and a 2bbl opening in the log intake added, plus an adapter plate. :thumbs2: If you are local, Atlanta area. Don Dixon Hi Performance Engines, in Norcross Ga, 30071 P/N 770 448 3166, did the work. He did a great job and is easy to work with.:thumbs2:
Anyhow, today I started the engine. It ran great, just needs a little tunning. That's tomorrow's job.
After I get it tuned, I'll let you know the difference between a 215 cfm 1bbl and a 350cfm 2bbl. Well, plus a header. I am hoping to gain some highway horsepower and fuel economy.

Frank, I'm going to start an ugly rumor about Kasey Kahne and tell Effie you started it.

    Ken,

Glad to hear!!! You don't know me yet, but I'm also a I-6 fan.

I'm very interested to hear the total package, and and final tune notes, as you have just gone down the path I just started on--pulled the 250 last weekend and am setting up for rebuild.

    Lou,
I am happy to give out this combo. I had a D5 head milled .060, (compression is 8.73:1), added 1.76 int, 1.38 exh, Adjustable rockers, FE Pushrods, opened up the head to accept a 2bbl abapter. The adapter was designed and machined by Don Dixon. The carb is a 1971 300cfm Holley economy carb off a 351 Ford, features a pair of .522 jets and a 2 staged power valve. This carb is by no means a race carb, but makes you swear the engine is a small V8.:yahoo: The engine is a low rpm engine with stock cam, it starts easily and idles smoothly. The header is great, but as I have found, if you touch is while it is hot, you will lose a patch of skin. The car sounds great to me, I have a quiet muffler on the car and the header didn't addd any more noise.
Next time I am home, I'll post pictures of the engine and Dixons engine work.
I am looking at changing the final drive ratio from 2.75 to 3.25.

    Lou,
Do you have "The Ford Falcon Six Cylinder" book? If not go to fordsix.com. This is a great reference book for I-6's.

Excellent book. It is a must have for I-6 build ups.

Well, I took the Mav out on for a drive today. Local streets and highway driving. The acceleration was smooth and even, no sputtering, luging or hopping it will get up to speed. Nope, no more of that. The car ran great. I even hit 80mph for a moment.:drive: It was able to pull past that, but I really don't need a ticket. I will start tracking gas mileage soon.
    Ken:cheers:
A 2bbl and header is all the Mav needed.

    Hey JnkYdMod,
I haven't done any mileage numbers, yet, it does seem to be getting a little better mileage. I still think these mod's are well worth doing.

    Ken,

Good to know, I'm getting closer. Tranny & motor are out, tranny is in peices on the work bench.:hmmm:

Should have the valve body rebuilt/programmed tomarow, and all my clearances checked for thrust washer selection, and then its time to start putting it back together:thumbs2:

Once that is done, I will start on the engine. Just picked up some headers from another member, and am waiting for their arrival. Can't wait, there is nothing my wife likes better than to see boxes of car parts show up on the steps--hope I get home before she does:bananaman
