I wish I was more computer literate. I can't figure out how to post a thread. Anyway, I've been wanting to post a thread about a similar problem. The 72 Grabber that I'm fixin up is broke in this area at the driver side rear shock. The floor pan is cracked real bad and the crossbar between the frame rails is broke. What is the best way to repair this? Thanks for any replies!
Since this thread is already hijacked... you can cut a piece from a donor car and weld it in... my upper mount was torn off my 77 from shocks with coil-overs added to them for lift. I cut out that section of crossmember and replaced it with the same section cut from a parts car. I did not replace that part of the 'floorpan' because it was not damaged, but if so, you can just leave that on the donor part and not have to separate the spot welds to just weld in the crossmember piece. I suppose if you were ambitious you could replace the entire crossmember.
Hi Darrel - to the board! I started a new thread for you in technical. In the future - to start a thread - go to the forum that applies best to your comments or questions and look for the NEW THREAD button. You will find it on the title pages of threads - not inside of somebodys existing thread.
Is this damage from someone using air shocks, or just rusted floor pans? Sounds like what would happen after using air shocks, and the reason I took mine off...
Yea, It had air shocks on it, but there off now. I have the rear axle housing out of the car. I'm trying to figure out how to make the repair. It look like someone must have a serious motor in it at one time. There is also a twist right behind the transmission hump where it narrows at the driveshaft.
I'm running into the same thing with my 76. The air shocks blew right through the mounts and rear floors, then the po did a half-azz job of patching it from inside the trunk. No supports or mounts what so ever:16suspect I welded together a cross member from 1.25x1.25 tube but I think I might just cut the rear floor section out of a junk car instead...not sure yet.
