The taught us that in shop class in high school years ago(about oily rags and combustion). The don't teach that sorta thing in school any more. I mean auto shop class. Its sort of a thing of the past!

    What a shame.

Why are you worried about rust in Atlanta, GA?

    Good question...

Currently looking at a move to western Pa. We do have rust problems here in the south from the "sweating" caused by the relentless humidity of the south.

I have seen some rusty Mavs in southern yards!

I have been told that it is commom pratice to coat the bottoms of cars in oil over in Europe. We restored a Austin Healey last year and the entire undercarraige was sprayed in oil. The owner is originally from France and he's the one who told me about this method of rust proofing. It seemed to work pretty well on the Healey. But it's sure messy to do mechanical work on.

Yeah, I have enough problems with wrenches slipping off of bolts! :)

I can see having to weld something underneath, if you don't get all the oil removed the car turns into a fireball.

If I sprayed oil on the bottom of my vehicles there would be a 1/2 " of dirt stuck on there in a week .

    Blech
