i got the 302 and 3 spd.floor shift in,but one major problem.i went to modify my 200 six z-bar,that went well, but when i went to mount it in,it appears that the motor sits about a half inch too forward!when i go to mount the frame side carrier and stud,i am only able to get one screw in instead of two.i checked the frame mounts and i have them the right way.if i switch them around, the motor will sit forward even more.it seems that i have to offset the z-bar shaft and re weld it.is that normal on these z-bars,or is something just not right?oh by the way the motor is out of a 72 torino,if that helps.all replys and suggestions, are HIGHLY appreciated.thanks guys...chuck.
Chuck, since I dont know what you did to modify your 6 zbar, I can only think that you need a V8 Z bar. You have got my interest going now. Keep us posted. Dan ps while I am no expert on this subject I would think the mounting point on the frame would be different from V8 to a 6?
thanks for the reply dan.the only thing i did so far was cut about 2 and a half inches off the shaft that the studs ride on.was going to take it to work and have the arm cut and rewelded.don't know about the mounting points,i figured that the six and eight were the same.seems that ford would just keep them universal, tooling and cost wise?are the orig.8 cyl.z-bar offset in any way? thanks chuck.
Way back in the dark ages, (gravel driveway and a flashlight), I did the exact same thing. Modifyed my 6cly stuff to work with a 302. Seems to me I had to modfy the frame mount to get it to line up too. If I remember correctly, one bolt had a modifyed fender washer on it to catch the back of the mount. Easiest thing to do would be to weld a longer plate on the bottom of the mount and redrill the holes. Now, why didnt I think of that back then?
hey dennis, would i run into the same problem with a regular z-bar for an 8 cyl.(frame mount wise)?also are the 8 cyl.bar offset in any way? chuck.
If you can find the V8 z bar, its pretty much worthless without the frame & engine mounts. The pivot ball is much larger diameter than the 6 cylinder stuff. They are not offset. The frame mount is different.
