I didn't see what year car you have, if you posted it.. It is more challenging on the later Mavericks with the larger gas tanks. There is NO room for a pipe between my 19 gallon tank and the frame rail (well unless you want 1/2" pipes). Some have routed the pipe over the axle right under the frame rail, then outside the leaf spring behind the tire or possibly straight back outside of the spring. My exhaust guy was also doing my inspection, and he said it was legal in MO to dump in front of the rear tires ( I sure thought it wasn't ) so I didn't question him. :thumbs2:

Different states, different laws. In PA the exhaust tip has to be behind the rear door seam. You need to find out about your state. A lot of states post their motor laws online, do a search. I downloaded PA's complete inspection manual for free. Helped when I had to argue with an inspection mechanic about my GF's car.

The thing is that even though all states will have some sort of opinion on all sorts of auto subjects, only some states actually enforce their stance.
Any state that I know of that has antique/historic tags, for an example, requires that the car is complete, unmodded, original, and rarely driven.
Now, how many blown, tubbed, ect... antique tagged cars do you see?
    I see many.
My father just got historic tags on his Chevy.
The state he is in requires that a state trooper come by and fill out paperwork and "inspect" the car.
It is a checklist of things for the trooper to go through and the car owner to agree to. Modification and mileage guidelines and such. Also a backround check is done on the VIN and all VINs on the vehicle are checked for matching.
Long story short, this took about 2 minutes and 34 seconds flat, and the trooper signed off on the car which has a 5" tall ABS scoop, side exhaust, aftermarket shifter, ect so-on... A 78 model too, with Hooker Supercomps and no chance ever for a cat in the short exhaust...
He signed name and put his official seal on this car being stock and unmodded!
The car has antique tags for life now!
The state he is in only requires one reg. for antique tags. They never need tabs/stickers or renewal for as long as he owns the car.

FL requires that antiqued tagged cars only be driven in "parades and special events"... and "never for business or work related transport".
My mail lady bought a surplus Jeep from the post office to use delivering my mail every day. Guess what? She has antique tags!

I was just using that as an example of the strict regulations being enforced by folks that are clueless about our hobby.

Owning a 75 in an inspection state can be a real pain.

A piece of advice to anyone that does:
Keep the original valve covers, or get some 75 valve covers with the emissions label.
    There were two that year.
One said "catalyst" and the other said "non-catalyst".
If you don't have the "non" version, you are automatically required to keep a cat installed.
My 75 was a first half year car without a cat.
I tossed the covers with the label, then moved to NC for a while.
They wanted me to use a cat because I no longer had proof it didn't come with one. Along with several other expensive mods they wanted 'undone'.
And I was a state inspection officer at the time!
I had all the connections and still couldn't get a pass.

Well i got it to another shop, he said he was a little worried about going over the axle so i told him i could bring in pics, he quoted me $350 that was 2.5" from the headers into an x-pipe to new 2.5" v-force mufflers and 2 1/4 tailpipes with chrome tips, what do you all think?

Its tight but 2 1/2" all the way back will fit, I have 2 1/2" all the way with x pipe and Flowmaster series 50 mufflers (did have the original series 40 mufflers on at one time but the state of Delaware would not pass because of noise ) Just keep checking around till you find someone who can do it, also with the x pipe I kept mine back far enough so I can drop the transmission without having to drop the exhaust. I'll get you a picture of my exhaust this weekend.

Things to help make more room, you can remove the tie down rings around the rear of the leaf spring if your car has them, the driver side gas tank corner sheetmetal that sticks out can be bent some, and the fuel line can be moved a little.

One thing I highly recommend is adding joints to each side just before it goes over the axle. That way if you have to pull the transmission, you unbolt the collectors and joints, and pull the whole exhaust system out of the way. I like this type of joint because there are no gaskets needed.

Tell him you will trade the X-pipe/2.25" tail pipes for H-pipe/2.5" tailpipes.
The X makes such a small difference compared to the 2.5" pipe that it's not worth all the extra money you pay for an X vs H.
The inventor of the X pipe even tells people it's not worth buying...
It adds a miniscule amount of power to a Nascar engine turning 8-9 grand rpms without mufflers. Just think how little HP you get on your 5 grand street engine with crush bent tubes and mufflers...:hmmm:

What part of the country are you in?

I ask because other members in your area might like to give this guy their business.
His willingness to help one of us should be rewarded with business from not only our Mavs, but maybe the wifey's mini-van needs a muffler too.
